Hi, I'm 27 yrs old and my hairloss started last year july 2010. it's very aggressive and i was losing 40-50 hairs when i shower, mostly on top. It's a diffuse thinning on a horseshoe pattern. My father, 50+, is a Norwood 6 and my grandfather 70+ is Norwood 7.
From july - dec 2010 i was losing 40-50 hairs in the shower. Then January 2011 i was surprised that my hairloss was decreased to 10-15 hairs when i shower and no more hair when i comb. This continued until june 2011. Then this july i started losing my hair again 30-40 hairs when i shower so i thought this is now the time to take action. I am afraid of sides from finasteride so i started taking 1/4 (0.25mg) of propecia everyday. It's been 15 days now since i started taking it and i am shedding very badly since the 5th day of taking it. I am losing 40-50 hairs when i shower and additional 15-20 hairs when i comb my hair. The condition of my hair now is much worse than before i started taking propecia. I am losing hope because i thought that the shedding should start at 3-4 months after taking finasteride but what would my hair be at that time if i've been shedding badly even at the start of the treatment. Does this mean that i am responding to propecia this early?

Your pattern looks like the female one, you have Female Pattern Baldness!

Yeah that's what i thought at first at the beginning of my hairloss last year but the condition of my hair at the moment i think i am now Norwood 3V with diffuse thinning on the top.
I might take pictures of my hair when the shedding stop.

Your hair needs to shed so thicker/fuller hair can replace it.
Your hair may look worse after 3 months of treatment, than what it did at baseline.
If you are taking finasteride and no MINOXIDIL with it. It will take at least 6months to get any kind of improvement. Some people see improvements after 2-3months, others after 1 year. If you have maintained your hair after 1 year, with no visual improvements, than that is still a success.

Do you think that i shed due to propecia even at this early stage of treatment? Does it mean i am responding to treatment? I think 30% of hair that i shed are small and thin hair and 70% are thick and long hair.

I am still shedding and the frontal part is now also thinning. I think i am experiencing side effect from propecia. Before the treatment my semen used to be thick and white but now its almost clear and watery.

yes i am still taking 0.25mg and if there is no improvement within 6 months i will increase it to 0.5mg, i don't wanna take 1mg cause it might increase side effect and also i can't afford spending too much money for it cause i have other priority financially.
I don't want to use minoxidil cause i tried it before, and within week of using it i got sides and i don't like it.

1 month update

update: Hair today is better than the baseline. I experienced shedding last december until last week but hair is still good. 0.25mg of propecia is working but i think i will have better result if i take higher dosage. but still i am satisfied with the result. No side effects so far.
