Hey everyone,

Just popped my first finasteride pill today in hope of at least slowing down my hair loss and even(fingers crossed)getting some regrowth.

Well it all started when i was about 21 years old. I noticed my hair was much thinner on top and my hair line had receded a little.I didnt really worry to much at first because it wasnt that noticable and ive always had fine hair so just made sure my hair was cut short.

At 23 it started getting noticable. The hair on my side and back would grow much faster than the top. It made my hair look like a mushroom shape if it was left too long.

So i started researching online and stumbled across this website.I spent weeks reading about hair transplants and i now understand its simply not an instant fix for guys like me who are diffuse thinners.I know my hairloss is aggressive as i'm only 25 so i need to stop or slow my hairloss before even considering a hair transplant.

I came across concealors which helped so much with my hair. The topik and dermamatch made my hair look alive again! It gave my hair texture and thickness. But deep down i know the problem isnt going to go away, so i'm now starting the treatments in hope that i respond well.

Its taken me 3 weeks to pluck the courage to take finasteride.I have been reading up on side effects alot and i must admit some have freaked me out.

I'm not too concerned about the possible sexual side effects. My main worry was if this will effect my training and/or change my body composition.I do train very hard in the gym 5 times a week and im also a very successful fitness model so you can understand my worry.

But after some serious thought i decided i can try it out and keep a close eye on any changes. And also i shouldnt worry about side effects because the mind can play tricks on you!

So my regime is rogain foam twice daily(morning &night)

finasteride 1mg once a day

nizoral 3 times a week

I have taken some pics to monitor my progress below

Re: peapoddy's story - (age 25 year old just starting finasteride)

i noticed great improvements in my training since i started finasteride. i guess because less testosterone is being converted to dht, so theres a little extra floating around. also improved my sex drive.

Your hair isn't that bad and you are lucky as it is blonde.

I don't know what country you are from but by adding the L'oreal thickening shampoo, this will thicken your hair alot. Will be better than adding that concealer stuff.

Finasteride is great. It will keep the crown area and some will regrow. Just keep a check on that hairline though as finasteride is not that effective in that area. If it gets worse, add minoxidil to your regime.

Good luck.

well guys just thought i would do an update:)

I have been on the finasteride for over a week now and no sides.

Maybe i noticed a slight increase in breakout of spots on my face but im prone to that anyway.

Yesterday i got my haircut much shorter which i think looks better.I can also apply the rogain foam better

I really hope i can thicken up what ive got.. would be nice to get away from the concealers! My hairline still gets me down though:(Its frustrating as i have the money to get a transplant but i need to wait to see if finasteride works before i do anything. If i could have a perfect hairline for 5 years before my hair got worse then i would take that!

some pics from today

haircut looks good man.

Your hair and hairloss are so much like mine, but mine is way worse up front. I wouldn't look at you and think you were losing. So, if the meds work you are going to be more than awesome.

I agree with pretty much everyone here. Your haircut looks good.

I think you could do with perhaps hair wax or hair spray for styling instead of gel like in one of your pictures. It gives (at least in my case) an illusion of way more volume. It'd also save you from panicking since now that you know you've got male pattern baldness you'll be constantly looking for light that hits your scalp in every mirror you pass.

Your hairloss isn't bad yet so with the Big 3 it seems like you'll do quite well. Good luck.

Hey everyone,

I have a question about my rogain foam.

Now i seem to be getting through a can in less than 2 weeks! The problem is i'm apply to the thinning areas ,and being a diffuse thinner i have to use alot to cover my whole head.

Would it be ok to use liquid for the crown and top of head and foam just for the hairline?

Is it ok to mix brands ?i'm thinking of buying kirkland minoxidil.

thanks for any advice

i wouldnt suggest using the liquid and foam at the same time

meaning applying the foam and then applying the liquid to various parts of the scalp
i suggest this because the liquid makes your hair look wet and greasy for like 4-5 hours, which is something you do not want

i would however suggest to use the liquid at night and use enough to cover your diffusing ares

and then use an conservative amount of the foam in the morning

of course you could use them both at the same time but i think you would not like the way liquid makes your hair look
thats why the liquid is best to be used at night

i personally use Kirkland liquid at night and foam during the day
for these reasons

cheers mate

I don't really see the point in applying foam if you're going to use liquid.

The foam was introduced so people didn't have to bother with messy liquid, but if you're going to use it anyway then the foam is kinda pointless.

Unless you're just wanting to use up what you've bought, in which case consider using the foam in the morning and the liquid at night. Quite a few people do it this way.

I thought thats what you meant:)

Well i guess its way too early to see results.I've not had any bad sheds as of yet...but i'm pleased i dont have any bad side effects from the finasteride

My main concern was if the finasteride would effect my gym training but i'm pleased to say i feel even stronger lol. Also i dont get any breakouts of acne on my face:)

My goal is to stabilise my hairloss and any thickening up would be a bonus. Then i can consider getting my frontal area sorted with a transplant.I cant ever see the treatments bringing back my hairline... but hey you never know :)

will take some new pics this weekend

good idea ....i think you will find that liquid is actually easier to apply with medium/long hair
be prepared to have it make your hair look wet/greasy for like 4-5 hours

i find this method to be pretty effective
i take my nightly shower and then towel/air dry my hair so the hair is pretty dry but the scalp is still semi-moist and well hydrated
then i apply the liquid (you will get used to slightly squeezing the dropper) on your various parts of the scalp

this method also works if you have a lady friend over
she will think your hair is just wet from the shower and not from the minoxidil :hump:

good luck with your treatments
