Hey everyone, ive been on finasteride 2.5 months. First month and a half proscar, this past month Propecia. About 5 weeks in i started getting this pelvic pain and occasionally it felt like i had to pee but did not. The dr treated it as a uti and i Did a round of antibiotics (cipro) it didn't help. I switched to Propecia so i Could lower my dose. It seems to help taking .5 daily but the pain remains. When im at my best i feel pretty good at its worst im very uncomfortable and scared sh*tless. The pain is right above my penis and below my waistline and it seems to be more towards the front of my body. Also my hair is improving wonderfully already . The pain happens everyday but does not seem to change right when i dose. I mean, like the pain is no different 1hr after taking my pill or 23 hrs after. I have no std's or is there any glaring health problem to cause this. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Im getting very scared and sad lately and have made numerous dr apps. (Urology March 22nd) reg dr just yesterday... Again . Any thoughts or ideas Please reply! -Anthony

You should check with a doctor but it seems like finasteride gave you hypertonic pelvic floor muscles. I cant say for certian that getting off of finasteride will help, it might, but it didnt for me and, as such I'm still dealing with the condition months later. That said, according to my urologist, mild cases are perfectly fixable with physiotherapy and relaxation exercises. The physiotherapy is brutal and degrading but it's been helping me.

I would personally recommend getting off finasteride. But more so I must stress that you need to relax. Pelvic pain syndrome has a big mental component and freaking out could result in worse symptoms. You don't have a serious case and neither did I until I freaked out- now I can't piss properly (improving though). Technically I still don't have a serious case as it's a particularly brutal condition.

yeah man i ve been reading alot about chronic pelvic pain syndrome/pelvic floor disorders. One guy im talking to said he got What he thought was prostatitis(he took 6 weeks of antibiotics) after quitting finasteride. His pain remains off and on and stress exacerbates it. Also ive been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder many years ago and dont take any psych meds... Damn i did really just make myself sick, it looks like. Anything else you Could think to tell me about this? How they diagnosed it or anything you wished someone told you When yours first started. thanks! -Anthony

How Would Propecia cause this? I was scared sh*tless to take Propecia for 2 years and was very nervous to start and worried daily. Do you think the worry caused it more than the actual Propecia?

It's possible but the muscles of the pelvic floor are sensitive to androgens so I can't say. They diagnose you via a prostate exam.

Try out some yoga and read the book "healing back pain" by John Sarno. I'm about two weeks into the protocol and I'm seeing improvements in my BFS.

Thanks man, im slowly piecing all this together, ive changed doses and times and wrote down daily all the When, why, hows of all my pain. I will figure this out!! And i figure some Propecia ie .25 to .33 mg daily is not ideal for hair but far Superior to anything else out there. Im 34 a norwood 1.5 with naturally fine hair thorough. I cant just watch it and my self esteem erode away

When and how much propecia you take probably won't have any bearing on when you feel pain,. You may be able to address the problem via physio in spite of taking the drug or maybe not, it's hard to say. In the end it's up to you to weigh the pros and cons of continuing treatment for your hairloss.

no for me it really has! I mean dramatic too! Everyday im getting better my pain is down 60 to 70% it seems like a slow recovery. Im addressing my anxiety issues and constantly relax my pelvic area, so far so good. I now have zero urinary symptoms as well

Excellent, I'm very happy for you. Even after you recover you should maintain a stretching and strengthening routine for your pelvic floor. You clearly are somewhat susceptible to and it's very preventable. Get the book "healing pelvic pain" it has some great exercises.

Yeah im going too. I actually requested 3 different books from ohio libraries to be sent to my local library on the subject. Not sure if that is one of them, cant think of all the names off hand, but a headache in the pelvis is one of them. They are all about understanding and healing the problem. Hopefully the one you mentioned is one of them. They should be in Monday or tues
