I want to see my gp about my hair but I feel kind of silly just going in to have them look at my hair. I'm afraid they'll think I'm just wasting their time or that this isn't something big enough to see them about. This is mainly because I'm not super obviously balding or losing hair at first glance and I'm scared they'll think I'm a joke wasting an appointment or something.

Go. I went when I was about 19. Nearly 20 years ago now. The Dr didnt have a clue what propecia was. I went and asked about it and while I was there he looked it up. He didnt prescribe it to me but I bet by now most doctors will know about it.

what purpose do they serve here, you can get an online prescription in the UK without a GP. Costs me £50 for 6 months of finasteride.

Oxford pharmacy
Pharmacy 2 u
Getfreshman

And many more options,,,,

I get my dutasteride online here in the uk too(oxfordonlinepharmacy)but for a variety of reasons i don't want to rely solely on the internet to get my hair loss meds, probably end up going to my GP eventually and asking to get prescribed....what are the chances they will prescribe 200mg spironolactone? lol

I got recommended therapy when I went at 19, my GP was actually balding himself, i'd say he was a nw3a and he told me that everything didn't work for him and that I should accept hair loss, and that it is a part of ageing. I don't know what treatments he tried but i'd assume finasteride and min must not have worked for him. I got an online prescription at 21 and have been on finasteride for 2 and a half months now.

Don't bother they will fob you off with antidepressants or laugh at you saying it's all in your head.
exactly what happened to me, he recommended therapy and I got put on anti depressants that I took for 1 month and never went back.

I have never went to doctors to see about getting prescription yet, but from a few sources i have heard female doctors are a bit better than male ones when it comes to empathy in regards to hair loss, no idea why though.

I think females are just more empathetic in general, men will probably tell you to man up and accept hair loss, if hair loss happened to a female it would be devastating.

UK GP are generally rubbish unless you consult with spex hair as he recommends good GP. Alternatively try The Belgravia Clinic for free consultation, they will examine your Hairloss. I can help you with Hairloss but first determine your type of Hairloss.

I went back in my early 20s where I was shedding like crazy for a few months. I was probably a NW1.5 back then so my GP said my hair looked fine but that I should hop on Regaine (minoxidil) if it gets worse. I didn't think I was receding back then and my GP was a women so I can't blame her.

I echo what Jazz said though; go to the Belgravia clinic if you want a more thorough examination, just don't let them tempt you into buying their overpriced finasteride/min and laser bands. Went there myself last year and was told I'm around a NW2.

I've heard of the Belgravia Clinic ripping people off, you're better off getting a finasteride prescription online.
