Hey, i know allot of you guys out there particularly the veterans of this site have had success with their regimens. I hear you guys talk allot about shedding slowing down or even stopping for you. What I was wondering is that did you guys just completely stop shedding or did you just shed noticeably less. I really can't envision how much i was shedding before I started to bald so I have no real measure to compare what is normal for myself. I'm aware that everyone differs in regards to the amount they shed but I was just curious whether the guys that have seen improvement still shed and if they feel they are shedding more then they were before male pattern baldness started.

I don't shed as long as I use folligen. Maybe 3-5 hairs in the sink in the AM.

I have been using folligen for nearly 10 yrs or so. I have used minoxidil for maybe 15 yrs. I used prpopeca for 2 yrs but am off of it as of the first of this year.

Does folligen serve the same purpose as the Neutrogena T-Gel i'm using right now? I went to CVS, hoping to find some folligen, and they didnt have any, so i purchased the T-Gel. Also, for those of you using folligen, did you all order it online, or can it be bought at drug stores, or beauty supply stores? And if so, how much does it cost?

Yes and no. I use both. I order it online as no store carries it.

Go to http://www.folligen.com for prices.

Bruce, what was Folligen's effect during the years?
How soon does it start working? Were you able to regrow from minoxidil and folligen? Or have u just maintaned during these years?
One more, if Propecia loses its power after lets say 6 years from use, does minoxidil have a timeline too?

It is always hard to pinpoint a products impact when you are using other products in tandem. I think folligen in itself is inadequate to handle male pattern baldness and that is why my regimen has a number of treatments to attack male pattern baldness form different angles. so to speak.

Re: the "loss of power" of propecia, I would suggest you go read that study. This is a contentious area at best. And when you are on several treatments, I think all bets are off.

Put another way, I simply don't know.

I don't understand what all the fuss about "shedding" is. It's perfectly normal. I probably notice myself lose about 30-40 hairs a day, mostly when I shower in the morning. I probably easily lose double that but I don't notice, and my hair looks fine. Since I've been combatting hairloss I've definitely thickened things up and improved my hair line, but I still shed--I don't think it's a reliable indicator on how well you're doing, you have to see visible changes in the mirror.

Luther: I created this thread to determine whether or not how much you shed was an indicator of the condition of your hair. I know that i'll always shed a certain amount of hair and was wondering if people that still shed can potentially experience regrowth. Your testimony was exactly what i was looking for.

How long have you been on your treatments??

What was your hair's condition before you got on them?

Thanks for your response.

I'm 20 now, and I started using nizoral when I was 18 and my hair was definitely a norwood 2. The nizoral alone didn't do much and my hair progressed a little--starting to noticeably thin at the crown by age 19...damn this is depressing to write about...but I started using finasteride last September along with Folligen and minoxidil 5%.

I did that for about 4 months and my crown thickened up again, which was a real relief. The finasteride was really killing my libido though (yea i know it's rare but it was for real), so I emailed Dr. Lee and he suggested I try some Xandrox ('cha-ching!'), which I started in late January. I've been using Xandrox 5%, Nizoral and Folligen for about 2 months now and I'm already noticing some improvement on my temples, i'll probably be about a norwood 1.5 in a couple months... I hope anyway. Just gotta stay the course.

I haven't really noticed a change in shedding, and if it seems a little less it's only because I'm not conscious about it all the time like I used to be. I've noticed my hair thicken and cover more scalp so it's really given me some peace of mind. Which makes the whole thing totally worth it.

But yeah--don't sweat the shed. Just look at yourself in the morning and at night and judge. Good luck dude.

Luther: I think the actual percentage of men who experience some sort of sexual side-effect while on finasteride is much higher then the data suggests. Granted most people don't experience "serious" side-effects but having a decreased sexual interest and anything relating to that can be very traumatizing. I personally have to bear with it.

Once you stopped finasteride did you notice a cessation of all the side-effects you experienced while on it? Thats the only thing that really worries me, prolonged side-effects.

It's good to hear that your starting to see progress. I personally just ordered folligen and it seems like everyone that incorporates it into their regime only has good things to say about it.

I think your right about shedding. Although the amount a person sheds is relative everyone that is balding will experience it to some extent. I'm just glad some people have noticeable shedding and are still seeing progress.

Thanks
Kramer.

I have read on here that some guys have side effects up to like a year afterward!? For me, it only took about two weeks after stopping and my sex drive was back up to par. From now on no more pills unless my doctor says so.

Admittedly I don't know how much folligen has affected my success since I started using it with minoxidil 5% and finasteride together...but I think it can only have helped. It's supposed to keep more of your hairs growing at one time I think, not actually regrow it so I'm hypothesizing that it amplifies the minoxidil. Not to mention my scalp feels great when I use it. If I go more than a couple days without using it my scalp starts to itch again (sign of DHT on the attack?). I would use Tricomin since HairLossTalk.com and Bryan say its better but folligen is supposed to have the same end result (regardless of the "quality of copper peptides" in either) and is just so much cheaper, and I'm on a student budget.

There is no scientific rationale for indicating Tricomin is "better" than Folligen. Folligen is certainly cheaper.

is tricomin proven and folligen is not????In the product section of this site it has folligen listed as a mild growth stimulant and tricomin as a growth stimulant....whats goin on here?

Thats good to hear. I know one day I'm going to have to eventually get off propecia and I don't want it lowering my sexual appetite forever. It's dropped a significant amount already, since i'm 18 I can deal with the drop because I still have enough to get me going but who knows what it will be like 10 years down the line.

Too late to get Tricomin, I already got the big 8 oz of Folligen on the way. Counting the days!

Tricomin was created by Dr. Pickart years ago. It went through STAGE 2 FDA trials. Pickart later sold company and created skin biology and folligen. He still holds patents on much of the cooper peptide technology.

He covers the tricomin and folligen debate rather well on his website.

I tend to believe him on this subject but I have never used tricomin so I have no experience with it.

You need to ask HairLossTalk.com how he classified these two treatments.
