Persistent Lowered Test From Finasteride And Recovery?

Hi All,

Been on finasteride for a year with no side effects other than lower semen volume (an effect not a side effect according to Dr. Bernstein). Like seriously, other than possibly some libido issues (was also on ssris for a portion of it) I have been fairly lucky with sides. I was on finasteride for almost all of 2017 and it was easily the best year of my life. I am still able to have sex 3 times a day and get rock hard.

I went to have an annual physical and on a whim had them check my test levels and they were around 250... So pretty low. We are scheduling a retest in the morning next week and in the meantime I threw my finasteride in the back closet assuming that had anything to do with it. My Dr is actually an endocrinologist and he said finasteride would not have been his first guess but it could be I am very sensitive to hormonal changes, and if anything it could be an increase of estrogen that is causing some of these issues. He said to stop finasteride just in case and that there was a very good chance that if that was the issue it would resolve itself after discontinuation. He mentioned the DR tribe and how the history behind them so I feel he is at least competent in this area.

There is not much data or even forum posts here regarding lowered test levels in people on finasteride, if anything it seems like it raises it. I do not plan to be on finasteride anymore as I don't like the idea of such low test regardless of side effects. There seems to be a few members here that have had it and recovered over a few months back to relatively normal levels. Needless to say I am having a real panic right now and while I don't like being lied to I would appreciate anything other than propecia help lol.

After I quit propecia, what might recovery look like? Can it be totally natural to raise test levels or do I have to do it with Clomid? HRT?

Really freaking here

Propecia would definitely NOT be responsible for lowering your testosterone to such low levels. There is very little, if any, estrogen increase at 1mg/day to cause a 'negative' feedback to testosterone stimulation. If anything, all the studies show that it basically does not influence any other endocrine hormone. So stopping Propecia won't do jack for your testosterone.

As long as you have healthy testicles and your LH is low (secondary hypogonadism) then Clomid should be very helpful. This too can increase estrogen, so I would have him do in depth tests before starting and monitor a few months after starting (specifically LH, FSH, FREE TESTOSTERONE, ESTRADIOL, PROGESTERONE, FREE T3, FREE T4, CORTISOL, PROLACTIN).
