Hello,

I doing PRP myself: very inexpensive at home (less than $300 for centrifuge tubes, needles, syringes, infusion) which beats the $!600 for 4 treatments I was going to pay.

My question: scalp injections or microneedling for PRP? I can do either. I think they are comparable but microneedling will be less pain and I think hundred of little wounds wll be absorb just as well intradermal injections. What do you think?

I don't expect PRP to a miracle cure. I have a thinning patch exacerbated greatly by a medication side effect. That said, the results some attain are worth the effort. I think PRF and stem cell are obvious choices but too expensive for me

what do you say?

PRP has been disproved. It’s a sham.

That leaves you with…

Well, you may be saving me alot of time, discomfort and a few hundred bucks. Are you saying it doesn't work out of personal experience or opinion? Anymore info to point me to? Where there's a buck to be made there's a lie to be told so I'm not disagreeing with you. hoping for more info though. Thanks!!

Personal experience AND research:

And yet the studies listed below the study you attached ALL showed significant benefits from PRP. Thus, perhaps you are just not a good candidate as many are not good candidates. Perhaps the PRP method used on you was not effective.... I dont know. There are more studies that support PRP than those that don't. I can't find any threads on here though.

Thanks for your input. I'm sorry it didnt help you. Have you found something that does help?

Can you share links for the $300 inexpensive home option and the other $600 one as well? I need 5 PRP treatments after a hair transplant but I haven't come close to anything remotely in your price range.

The home options range from a few hundred to thousands. First you have to acquire PRP kits and acquire the knowledge to use their various processes. For example go to DR PRP USA website. I cannot attest to their quality. Just one example I found. Another in the UK. Without medical credentials and/or a legitimate licensed health business, options are limited. BUT the process is very easy and information is readily available on how to do it yourself. There is even a you tube video of a woman doing it herself, Google PRP DIY skin care video.

I cannot guarantee I will be 100% successful. Noone can. The article below explains why in Table 2. There is NO consensus or gold standard in how to do this. Some doctors do it correctly and see better results more often and some doctors - even spas do it incorrectly and get some results occasionally. The occasion they get good results they make sure to take lots of pictures to take all of your money and you may not be one of the lucky ones. Even if you go to the right clinic, you may not be an ideal candidate and it takes numerous repeats. It is not last like a transplant. Its a rich man's game. I advise you to microneedle with minoxidil or finasteride. If you need a transplant get one. Dont waste thousands on PRP. It needs to be repeated every 6-9 maximum in 100% of the cases!!

In my case, I have a side effect to a medication I was on and my hair will likely come back in 6 six months now that I am off the medication but I am scared. It happened quickly and I dont like it. I liked my hair. So I'll do PRP at home for under $300 (go to amazon and do a search for a PRP centrifuge, They range from $200 to $7000+ ) It does work: see article 2. It just doesn't work cheaply....unless you are willing to do it at home - like me - BUT I think DIY is too risky for 95% of people. Its not advisable. But I hate spending unnecessary money on something that can be done DIY and may or may not work. Same reason build my own laser hat: cheap, better than the $1000 machine BUT without wasting money on something that probably works minimally in alot of cases.

Is what youre doing using the double spin method?

I looked into DIY PRp ages ago. Also Im sure that you can DIY PRF yourself too, which is claimed to be more potente.

Imo i wouldnt expect anyrhing from this, but for sure it could help create in ur scalp a better enviroment...
Hi yes I am planning double spin. First spin I'll seperate plasma, Buffy coat, and Red blood cells. I'll use plasma and Buffy for a second spin and use bottom third of second spin.

PRF as well seems attainable. Lower spin speed with centrifuge and NO anticoagulant in collection tube.

It seems the method is EVERYTHING. This is somewhat novel and I suspect many doctors just do the method they are comfortable with. Do you have any sources on PRF techniques?

Thank you

Thank You for the detailed response. I in fact got a hair transplant in Turkey about a month ago and at the time of the procedure got a free PRP injection. Now they have suggested I get 5 more spaced out over the next year to maximize the results of the hair transplant. In the midst of researching for this here Stateside is when I realized how expensive PRPs are. I have since contacted the Doctor's office and they have told me that it's not absolutely necessary.. Any experience as to how much PRPs help with after getting a hair transplant?

Hi, I have zero knowledge or experience. I think though any time you transplant living tissue their is substantial trauma to the skin tissue. Thus, as PRP speeds the healing process and restores / rejuvenates damaged cells, that the PRP makes sense In my opinion I cannot see it being totally necessary. I wonder if their are topical oils - say CBD - that will help with growth and inflammation. I would think eating healthy and adding collage and nutrients would be a good idea too. I'm sure you're going to be just fine in six months to a year. Congrats!

The PRP situation also boggles my mind. A significant number of studies show positive results, although anekdotal experience from people who has it done is almost always negative. I tried it myself as well. 3 treatments and I can't say whether it did anything or not. For sure is that it wasn't a major improvement.

There might be variables involved like the machinery used etc that impact the results, but I don't have any knowledge on that.

Its certainly not something I would spend traditional amounts of money on...I'll do it cheaply or not at all. I too struggle with finding anyone on forums or IRL that has anything significant to say about results...other than it resulting in less money in their pocket
