Hello all - I decided to stop taking Propecia. I've noticed visible breast enlargement, although they don't hurt.. I'm definite i'm getting it. I sent this same email to my Hair Doctor - please reply with comments or anything at all.

Hello Dr.,

I know that all side-effects are reversible on Propecia. Is this including Breast Enlargement? I am not sure if i'm getting it or maybe i'm just going paranoid. I used to work out before (4 years ago) and i'm back on the gym again. I notice that when i view my chest sideways on the mirror, I notice a little 'chunk' or 'fat' that's not suppose to be there. I am not certain if this is a side effect, maybe this was just fat that I've gained all through out the time when I stopped working out. OR can this be a side effect of Propecia's breast enlargement??

I'm continuing on actively working out. Hopefully, i'll see what it really is once I start losing weight. I'm really hoping it's just the fat that i've gained when I wasn't working out all those years.

Well, this is my question - Is breast enlargement, as one of the side effects of Propecia - reversible as well? That if I stop taking it, will my chest be back on it's own natural proper size?! I just wanted to confirm this with you since all side-effects are reversible as written on propecia's website.

ps. I started using Rogaine Foam about a week ago and i love it! I'm also considering on stopping propecia and just stick with Rogaine but I need to consult with you first. Thanks again Dr.

Dear Mr. Dikwa,
If you noticed visable breast enlargement, I would advise you to stop propecia.
It does happen. Rogaine is an excellent medicine and you should definitely continue.

So it's ok to stop Propecia as long as I keep using Rogaine, correct? I would be ok with that since Propecia is a little too expensive.

With this breast enlargement, when I stop taking propecia - how soon before i see reduction on my chest?? How soon before it goes back to normal proper size??

I guess my main concern is, will I retain my original chest size.. WILL THE MANBOOB GO AWAY SINCE I DECIDED TO STOP TAKING PROPECIA???

I'm on my 3rd bottle (90 day) and it's unfinished.. So about 7-8 months.. =( ... wow.. a surgery.. is there any other way?? I dont wanna take anymore meds, meds is what started this.. i'm freaking out..

I've been searching online and I couldn't find any facts behind this (not that i'm questioning you Gremmy, thanks for the reply) - but I just wanted to confirm it...

I really I hope I fully recover from it...

dikwa - everything I've ever read points to the sad conclusion that if your breasts enlarged while on finasteride - then the only way to un-enlarge them is by lipo-suction (surgery).

I'm in the same boat. Back in 99 I was on 1.25 mg proscar 4 out of every 5 days - and very gradually, and unbeknownst to me, and after only 8 - 9 months, my chest had gotten bigger.

Since then I've done about a gazillion push-ups and bench-presses - and rubbed soome anti-fat cream on my chest for over a year - but to to no avail.

I have noticeable moobs - but not so bad in my opinion that it warrants surgery.

Just don't let it get any worse.

Thanks hair_tomorrow - but what do you mean by not letting it get any worse?? I STOPPED PROPECIA! And only if i can go back 8 months ago... I would... Sorry for my talk, i'm just really down right now.. I guess this is the time where I need to start accepting..

A Surgery?? Nah, I dont think it's that bad for me to need a surgery..

One more question - I have no chance whatsover, not even 1% of my moobs reducing size???

Everbody's different - who knows - maybe there's something out there that works that I haven't tried. But if there is, I don't know about it or else I'd share.

The best thing you can do is to stay in good physical shape and keep any extra weight and flab off. I have noticed that when I let myself go - my moobs look worse then when I'm in good shape from working out.

In my case anyway - any extra poundage I put on goes right to my stomach and chest - making things look all that much worse.

If you're off propecia - it shouldn't get any worse.

Another question - Were you taking Propecia as well?? And oh, I'm taking Centrum Performance Vitamin right now.. there shouldn't be any complication to that right??

I wasn't taking proecia - but proscar, which has the same active ingredient as propecia (finasteride).

No, Centrum and Revita shouldn't add to any breast enlargement problems.
