Please help! I've lost 70% of my hair in the past 2 yrs!

I tried Propecia for 11 months and then quit. It was like I was paying someone $60/mth to rip my hair out. I've been taking Fincar for 5 1/2 months. My hair keeps getting worse. My sides are going back. My temples too. My hair was thick and curly. Now it's thin and frail, and when I touch it, it falls out. I can see through to my scalp. When I wash it I just want to start balling, because it falls out everywhere.

It gets worse every day. I can see the difference from week to week. Should I try Proscar instead of the generic? Should I use Rogaine, spironolactone, ...?

It's like I have female pattern baldness though. Is there such a thing? My crown isn't bald yet.

I would love to hear from someone about this.

Thanks!!

i would say your next bet is dutasteride, but it is possible that you are just not a good responder to both finasteride or dutasteride...

he may have success on dutasteride. the extra inhibition of type II may be enough to stop his loss, or make it go slower at least. buy generic dutasteride for $360 a year from inhouse.

Could the hair loss be something other than male pattern baldness. I mean 70% in two years is a lot isnt it.

Except for being more potent, how is dutasteride going to be any more effective? Especially since this guy doesn't sound like inhibiting DHT is his biggest problem. After losing that much hair in such a short time, my first trip is to a doctor to have lots of bloodwork done.

jayman, you seem to be having some success with avodart. Are you using the generic stuff from inhouse or the real stuff?

Thanks for the replies

Hi guys. I really appreciate all of the replies and comments. every thing helps. my quality of life is ruined.

i worry about dutasteride and the talk of losing ground on the hairline. i mean my hair is super thin now, but i have most of my hairline.

i had blood work done 2 yrs ago, and i was ok. i noticed is then. then it got 10x worse. everyone says stop stressing, but i can't even wash my hair w/o 10% of it dropping out.

is min foam good for the hairline? is spironolactone better? i'll take anything.

Thank a lot!!

don't worry. dutasteride won't make you lose any more hairline ground than you would have on propecia. both will slow your hair loss and won't make it worse.

are there cases of people getting more hair from avodart? isn't it rally expensive?

i pay $1 a day for fincar. for all i know, it's not the real thing. i get it from a canadian pharmacy. i was going to get a prescription from medical wellness center. cvs charges like $117/month for avodart.

Consider having your blood work checked again

I would agree with Ned Flanders- might be worth seeing your doctor again as it doesn't sound like male pattern baldness especially.

JayMan, why do you tell people to use generic dutasteride when you use real Avodart?

I personally think patent violation is pretty sleazy and I don't support it. (There are instances where I might advocate going the patent violating generic route but this is not one of those cases.) Avodart is kind of expensive but I get mine from elite net pharmacy.com (no spaces) and it's 69 US a month. Considering you can take it every third day and still be inhibiting more 5ar than by using proscar, i'd say the 278 US a year is a fair price, and does not justify going to a patent violating generic version.

look into telogen effluvium and alopecia areata. That is some fast hair loss all of a sudden.

that sounds seriously enough for you to neglect all the comments you see in this board and go consult a doctor instead.

$1 a day for Fincar is expensive if you're splitting it in quarters. http://www.inhousepharmacy.com sells it for $10 a month.

I just take it straight, but maybe I should cut it at least in half. I took propecia for 11 months and I kept losing. I just bought Rogaine foam and ordered retina cream.

I just worry because every time I wash my hair I lose about 10% of it. Man, I'd grow dreadlocks, if I could keep my hair. I can't touch my hair when it's wet, because it sticks to my hands and comes out.

FC, I use real Avodart because insurance pays part and it's same price. Otherwise, i'd use generic. I used generic for a month., and it was fine. You're wasting 480 dollars a year if you're paying for it from elitenet, considering it may not even be real. Less incentive to counterfeit a generic. I can't reason paying 70 a month for Avodart unless it's from a land pharmacy.

That's your opinion on justification. If you don't want to save $540 a year, then fine, but other people might like to. :p :p

Damn. I feel bad for you dude. Are you under stress, or on any sort of medications? Sometimes this can trigger rapid hair loss. Or maybe you have some sort of liver or thyroid disease, or hormonal or nutritional imbalance. It might even sound like a classic case of telogen effluvium, where something like a DHT inhibitor wouldn't help.

Like collegechemistrystudent said, it might likely even be something more towards alopecia areata, and eventually grow back unassisted. Maybe even toxic alopecia. I know you stated you already saw a doctor, but maybe it's time to see one again.

In the meantime, I don't think you have a single thing to lose trying minoxidil. In fact, from what you're describing, it could even help greatly. And remember with the Retin-a, especially in your fragile scalp condition, a little bit goes a long way. I personally wouldn't apply it more than twice a week, until you start to see some recovery. Maybe some sort of multi-vitamin approach might help too.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

You do realize that you'd be 100% bald if in 10 days, if that were the case right ?
