Hi guys, was hoping some of you could help me with some good advise and infomation. I am just starting a new regime and am on 5% kirkland minoxidil. But of what i can observe from all the forums on this site, the best results for people seem to be minoxidil and finasteride together. Washoping someone could tell me why, but more importantly the difference between different finasteride's? I was thinking about trying propecia as it seems to be the best, but was looking at proscar which is a generic finasteride, so they seem to be related? But when i look up infomation on propecia is says about blocking the DHT and related 5- alpha's but the cheaper finasteride (proscar) just mentions about the prostate glands. Wanted to get the proscar as it was cheaper and heard that there are more side effects with propecia? So if anyone can help me i would be most gratefull, cheers.. :D

They are both the same drug (finasteride) but Proscar has more finasteride in it than Propecia. Proscar has 5mg finasteride - which is the amount taken for an enlarged prostate - and Propecia has 1mg of finasteride which is the amount taken for hair loss. Fincar is the same as Proscar but it is made by another company. A lot of people buy Proscar or Fincar and cut it into quarters or fifths as this works out cheaper than buying Propecia.

Cheers Biff, so in theory, buying proscar which is cheaper than propecia and therefore getting 5mg of finasteride, by cutting it up, your are making propecia and therefore treating the hairloss by getting approx 1 mg of finasteride for a hell of alot cheaper than you would by buying just 1mg of propecia?

^yeh, but cutting isnt what its all cracked up to be. its better to cut into quarters. me personally, am never gonna cut pills.

So why don`t you think cutting the pills is all it is cracked up to be then? So you are willing to spend more money on one tablet like propecia than save money and just cut it up? How come?

it can be annoyin tryin to cut a tiny pill up but i think its worth the hassle to save money! doesnt matter if there not exactly the same size once youve cut them up either.
seems that most people use proscar rather than propecia.

So are Fincar and Proscar the same thing, just with different names? Andrew_J, so where can you buy propecia on the net at £22 a month cos that sounds like a good deal?

22 pounds is about $44, right? I get my proscar from my university pharmacy for $85 per month, and after cutting the proscar, that is $21 per month. If i wanted 1mg, I could take it 4 days out of 5 and pay $17.

Just cut the dam pill with a pill cutter. It takes zero coordination and 2 seconds and you don't have to be accurate.

You know what, if you want to re-emburse Merk for all their research costs by buying propecia, I don't want to stop you. I would not want them to stop cranking out new drugs for me to buy cheap. I thank every propecia buyer on here for keeping the research going with their monetary contributions. I'd contribute too if I were not a college student.

I did not read everyone's posts, but in response to the author, proscar is not generic. It is name brand by merk, the maker of propecia, and is just a higher dose because it is entended to fight a different disease. The label does not mention hair loss because that is not what it is intended for. Merk does not want you eating their profits and will not tell you that you can cut the pill in fourths.

So if i take proscar which is 5mg of finasteride and then cut it into 5ths or quarters` it is then the same as 1mg of propecia and will therefore help in the process of hair loss? Also is proscar and fincar the same thing. Also if you have any good websites to but cheap, good quality finasteride i would appreciate it??? :D
