Hey Guys, been wondering,

since I'm only in the very early stages (so much so I can't actually decide whether or not I actually have any hairloss) I wanted to run this poll so you can all give me your opinion on what would happen if i were to start taking propecia now before the major onset (I am a high risk factor).

i think there is always going to be some natural maturation and loss...

i don't know what finasteride "immunity" is???

No it won't prevent it. It may slow it down but it will not stop it. Genetics are stronger than hormonal drugs.

hmmm - I meant that your body becomes accustomed to the finasteride, so the effects wear off.

When you say natural maturation and loss, are you saying the loss and maturation of the hairline that would normally occur in someone not suffering male pattern baldness, or more extensive loss?

In a way it does lose its effectiveness but not as you think. As you age your hair follicles become more sensitive to DHT, so the finasteride keeps working but doesn't do enough to protect these ultra-sensitive follicles. finasteride just delays hair loss...how long depends entirely on genetics. For most people it'll be about 5 years... it's certainly no cure.

With current treatments, excluding a perfect transplant, fighting hair loss is a war you can't win...it's progressive and unrelenting...and a real motherf***ker

Im going to wholeheartedly (respectfully) disagree with anyone who voted or commented that finasteride can't accomplish this.

I began losing my hair at age 25. I am now 32. I still have my complete hairline using Finasteride and other antiandrogens. Finasteride for the first 3 and a half years worked perfectly. Switched to topical spironolactone and Revivogen ever since. Basically doing the same thing as finasteride, topically.

Still have everything I've got.

I realize this thread is about finasteride alone, but Im hijacking it like a bastard :) and making a different point for those who may stumble on this thread.

The entire purpose of this website is to convey to the public that they do not need to ever lose their hair.

If you start early enough, I believe you can maintain your hair. I believe using only antiandrogens like finasteride can accomplish that. At least for a large majority of men.

Obviously there will be exceptions to the rule, but after nearly 8 years, myself and countless guys I know, have kept everything they had the day they started treatment.

Then again, the finasteride trials didn't go much past 8 years, so maybe I am about to experience my doom! :freaked:

And what admin didn't even mention is that avodart is available which blocks the formation of even more type II DHT(thought to be the main culprit in male pattern baldness) than propecia. when avodart gets your type II DHT down to only 1.5% of it's original levels in your follicles, you should be able to have some great success for a long time.

I use Dr. Lee's spironolactone, and I apply it to towel dried hair usually, after a shower, and once at night before bed. I completely believe it has maintained my hair. I did a test and went off it for about 3 months. TOTALLY lost hair density up front where I was using it. Im back on it now and hoping to restore what I stupidly lost...

By the way there is going to be a new source of topical spironolactone lotion very soon. We've coordinated with a company who will be providing an extremely high quality product alternative for everyone out there. We believe its time people have more than one option for this extremely important product. Im completely sold on it, for maintenance.

Do you apply it just on the hairline or on the top and crown as well? What Norwood are you?

thanks for the reply, admin. i'm wondering if the spironolactone can be used in conjunction with minoxidil? also, after putting the lotion on, could someone use styling products with out totally negating the effects of the lotion, or does it absorb quickly?

thanks, just trying to decide on the right product to order!
