I've read that Propecia gives some people an itchier head and dandruff in some cases. But from combing through the forums, I don't see anyone talking about Finasteride eliminating or alleviating their dandruff.

Does anyone with dandruff problems prior to going on finasteride have reduced or no dandruff, now that they're on finasteride?

My dermatologist said Propecia does not affect dandruff, but he also said dandruff is not related to hair loss, which dissolved all trust I had in his knowledge about the two subjects.

[Side notes about my situation: I am pretty sure that my dandruff is the main cause of my hair loss. I only lose hair in the front though, although I have dandruff on the back of my head too (none on the sides). I have bad dandruff, the moderate seborrheic derm kind, where you get large white flakes that dig up underneath your fingernails if you itch your scalp, and occasional skin flaking outside my nostrils...I currently use Ketoconazole 2% (Nizoral 2%), and alternate it with a 6% Salicylic Acid shampoo. I'm not sure if the Salicyclic Acid shampoo is bed for male pattern baldness, because it loosens up the dead skin cells and might then make hair loss more likely. I've been on ketoconazole for 2 years now, and although it temporarily stops dandruff for 24 hours, it does nothing to "cure" it.]
