Hey guys. I started to take finasteride (1mg a day) since 2 months. Im also taking a corticosteroid for my allergy, prednisone since 1 month, now im slowly tappering it.
Im f*****g impressive how my hairs are recovering, they are growing a lot more stronger with much more density. I can even style my hairs now, tomorrow i will go to buy a gel ( a f*****g dream lol).
I know with finasteride the existing hairs get better but this usually start to happen after 3 months.
Im curious if i am only a good finasteride responder or if the prednisone has something to do with this early and impressive results. Not sure but maybe it helps by lowering inflammation and with the supression of adrenal adrogens.

Update here?

after 3 months(oct/nov/dec) with finasteride i switched to dutasteride (0,5mg daily) in january.

I know dutas is more stronger but wtf the results are amazing in only 2 months. Even the sides are moving forward.
Anyone know if the prednisone i took 3/4 months ago increased the results or im just a lucky super responder ?

if nothing go wrong i will post first and after photos, after 4 or 6 months of treatment

I have a very reputable doctor in the hairloss space and he prescribed a short dose to me for the inflammation and shedding. I’ve been on it a couple of weeks and haven’t noticed much other than lessened burning/itchy feeling.

how much dose ? They arent healthy. Better try topical route which has less systemic effect

I’m on 25mg per day for 3 weeks then half that after. Again, not sure it’s really doing anything but it’s only been 3 weeks.

uh man its not a really low dose that. I took 30 for 3 weeks than i lowered it ultil stop for 1 month.

Can do you ask to your medical if it has positive or negative effects for androgenetic alopecia ?

i saw that glucocorticoids supress adrenal and gonadal testosterone but also increase insulin ( which increase androgens ) and lower shbg ( more free androgens ).
Probably Its an answer for an endocrinologist.

Yep. As mentioned, without naming them my derm is a leader in the field. I’ll get a detailed response at my next visit and report back.

Anything? My dermatologist gave me a Prednisone Rx but haven’t tried as I’ve heard awful stories.

I’ve been taking it for 3 weeks now. About to halve my dose tomorrow to taper off. Maybe a slightly decreased itch and slightly decreased shedding.

Still thinning all over the front, the hairline is worse.
I suspect the prednisone i took months ago could have worsen my hair loss at this point.
However i cant find behind which mechanism the glucocorticoids can speed up male pattern baldness. If someone can help me i would appreciate it

dependency (once you start, you cannot stop), strong withdrawal effect, skin atrophy over time, irreversible effects to cells over time ...

Yep , i know the multiple sides effects. But i wonder if it has some effect on androgens which can speed up baldness.
I saw it can cause hirsutism and acne, but cant find throw which mechanism, if there are multiple studies where glucocorticoids decrease testosterone secretion from testicles and adrenals glands.

e.g. prednisone - there're a lot of studies with solid statistics - glucocorticosteroids decrease T; do u hope that this mechanism will help you combating hair loss? do u think it's so easy to fool your body and try to affect T as well?

they're also widely used to treat acne, but they also cause acne - it depends on a number of conditions and treatment pattern/timing

no man i wont touch that stuff anymore.
The frontal is thinning very bad, i just want to figure if its due the glucocorticoids i took or a shedding from dutasteride ( im 2 month in )

I suspect both. My experience: applied topical mometasone on my forehead against against acne flare-up, substantial shedding after gradual (even though) discontinuation, lost good share of my regrowth - before corticosteroids I enjoyed regrowth of my temples etc, the only variable that changed was this drug
