now it's so thin it can't stand up straight and my hairline has moved big time..

theoriticly possible???????!?!!?!??!?

is there any tests that a derm can give to determine if it's doing more harm than good???????

Jeff you have been on this forum in enough threads for enough weeks to know the answer to your question already.

Its a roller coaster until you hit the 12 month mark so sit back and ride it out. Things will look worse and better, worse and better... Read the shedding forum if you don't understand why.

Nothing wrong with wanting positive reinforcement. We all do to some extent.

I'm in the middle of a "roller coaster" now too, it's been going on for three months or so. You have to remember you are taking a drug that is affecting your hair, and one known to cause people to shed. It's hard as hell to watch your hair grow thinner and shed but *most likely* it's just a phase. There isnt any way (at least to my understanding) that inhibiting DHT, the hormone at the root of your hairloss, can cause your hair to weaken and fall out. There is no way propecia can exacerbate or speed up male pattern baldness. Just hold on and stick through it with the rest of us.

As for me, this past week or so it seems as though my shed may have stopped. I lost a lot of density though, and a lot from my left temple. I'm hoping it fills in thicker. I will update.

Good luck.

Trust me when I say, you are wrong.

Not only are you alarming people who are thinking of taking propecia, but you are worrying yourself to death on a forum that is filled with hundreds of posts acknowledging Propecia sheds and telling people they are temporary. You're actually harming newbies who are thinking of taking Propecia. You need to think about that before you post. Please try to.

You want positive stories but again i say they are all over the place man. I have typed it myself 30 times since you've been on these boards. Here is time number 31 ....

It goes away. It settles down. The shedding is not forever. I shed until month 11. It sucks. Ride it out. Take PICTURES of your hair... up close photos.. use them to keep your perspective.
