My hairline is getting pretty bad for a 17 year old. Just wanted to know my options. To be honest Im pretty sure I went through puberty way earlier than most ppl. I have facial hair and chest hair it's terrible. Not trying to take any dangerous medications or anything though

You need finasteride (finasteride) ASAP, maybe dutasteride if your case is aggressive. Your temple hairs are miniaturized, not gone so that's good for recovery. And the fact that you're more or less already fully developed, have facial/body hair means that it's probably safe for you to take finasteride, even though you're under 18. I would say, go see a Hair transplant doctor, ask them to prescribe you finasteride, monitor your progress and good luck. If finasteride doesn't halt/reverse, try adding minoxidil or switching to dutasteride. Because of your age and temple recession, you likely have an aggressive case, do not waste any time, act yesterday, or failing that right now. With hair loss, like most things, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Ask a specialist/dermatologist or GP to prescribe you Proscar (5 mg finasteride tablets) cut them in to quarters and take one every day.

So you're saying it's bad right lol. And should I just get on dutasteride right away instead of finasteride. I hear that it's more effective. People are always commenting on my hairline it kinda blows.

For your age, yes it's bad. Still NW2, but too much thinning going on in the hairline/temples. Like I said though, thinning hair can be restored, bald spots cannot, so there's a strong chance you can restore your hairline with finasteride or dutasteride. You should start with finasteride, you may not need dutasteride just yet. You have an aggressive case, but if you don't mind taking a pill every day, there's a good chance you can fix your hairline. You need to talk with a hair loss specialist to decide whether to go for finasteride or dutasteride, you may not need dutasteride yet, but your case is quite aggressive and dutasteride is the more aggressive treatment option. finasteride may be enough, maybe not. Either way, decide fast and act fast.

looks like stage 2, finasteride should definitely be a consideration. over what time frame has your hair line been receding?

I've just recently started paying attention to my hairline so I have no idea. I would say it's been like this for the past two years though to be honest

You could always go for a buzzcut. Your hairline isn't bad enough for people to tell that you shaved it because it was receding, it would seem more like an appearance/style choice rather than a 'well I'm losing my hair so I might as well buzz it all off)

I think you need finasteride or dutasteride, and also minoxidil. It'll be better to move on quickly.

A buzz cut is not an option man. I got a nice hairstyle

My mom won't allow me to get on finasteride. So my options are to convince her to let me see a hair specialist ( she prolly won't let me) or secretively take finasteride

Aren't there any other products you could use which are not to be taken orally? She probably would'nt mind those..

I wouldn't recommend that you use Dutasturide, or even finasteride as a matter of fact. You're still 17, and it may effect your sexual development. I wouldn't think that your doctor would give you a prescription. However I'd start with minoxidil. Don't get disheartened though, get on treatment and you'll start seeing results. The good thing is that you caught on to it fast and your follicles may just be resting, instead of being permanently dead.

With minoxidil, will it effect my hair texture, volume, or style in any way. That's the only thing stopping me right now. No point in having hair if it doesn't look nice

Well, applying minoxidil will not necessarily allow you to have nice looking hair while it's on, but you can apply it when you are at home or before bed time in a few hours. Honestly I have benefited greatly with minoxidil, my hair used to be life less and very weak, but after using it for a while it sort of restored thickness into it, I didn't get major regrowth, as I'm still using it, I see peach fuzz which is a good indication.

No telling how well you'll respond until you actually begin treating it and unfortunately it's a waiting game after starting treatments. For what it's worth your hair loss pattern resembles that of bumblebeewang and he managed to go from a NW2 back to 1 on the big 3. Not saying you'll get those results as your hairloss may be more aggressive but it's not impossible to "fix" your hairline at it's current stage (though I would expect to change norwoods).

To be honest with you, I think your hair looks fine. Good that you went to see a doctor and I wish you all the best with the treatment.

I wouldn't be too worried if I was you! :)
