hi, everybody. I'm new to the site but yet I've researched lots about hairloss! I'm 20 and went through a severe fever 4 months ago. About, 2 months ago..I noticed lots of hair falling out! Perhaps, 50- 70 daily! And..recently, it's definately decreased..now averaging..10-20 daily! I can see lots of new grown hair..and I guess it's just the matter of time. But, I totally understand how you all feel. When I was 17...as stupid as I was, I went on a crash diet! Months after, sure enough..hundreds and hundreds of my hair would fall out. But, yes...it did correct itself. My hair DID grow back!

As of now, I'm taking vitamins, chinese herbal medication, and using aromatherapy! Trust me guys...oils do work..maybe not all of you..but at least some of you. Focus on using oils like rosemary and lavender!!! Aloe vera helps too!! Buy the plant!

I have also bought this hair treatment program..in Asia. Within 2 weeks, the fine hairs have come thicker and stronger.

Trichology is an iffy subject. Many of them try to freak you out and milk your money. Some are not even certified. I had one guy asking me for thousands of bucks!! IT made me very upset to see people taking advantage of our vulnerability!! Anyways, I 'm just wondering how long is the the resting phase for Telogen Effluvium? It's funny how when I was losing my hair a couple of years ago, I wasn't worried at all!! I guess I assumed I just wouldn't go bald! And, now, it's not even as severe as it was..but it's really made an impact on my social life!

please reply

Why are you using herbs and vitamins that have no evidence to stop hair loss, and avoiding the clinically proven methods of treating your condition? You mentioned that you didn't want to start things like Rogaine just yet in another thread. I thought this was due to the mental stigma of being on something like Rogaine and the embarrasment, etc.

But if you're ready to do something about it, please get the appropriate bloodwork done, and start using the scientifically based treatments. There's a reason so much money and effort has been put into the research behind these methods, and there is no mention of asian herbs or vitamins for such a condition, unless you're dealing with nutritional deficiency of some sort.

I agree with the moderator to an extent. I think it can be a mistake to spend money and hope on things marketed at those of us desperate due to hairloss, when it only makes them richer. However, I also have to add that the problem with the scientifically proven medical treatments, is that so many of them aren't compatible for women of childbearing age. That would be ok I guess, if only postmenopausal women lost hair. However, I for one am not and am dealing with Androgenetic Alopecia hairloss. spironolactone, BCP, Rogaine, etc.... cannot be taken if you are intending to get pregnant (as many PCOS sufferers are trying to do, while also dealing with hairloss), and Dr.s won't give them to nursing mothers either.

So, that leaves me for one, looking into dietary changes, and herbal remedies that will help correct the horomonal and insulin imbalances I have going on in my body, which cause the hairloss.

Even if you are menopausal, it is hard to get a scrip for these meds. And, from reading the men's posts, there are side effects. IMHO, I'm not sure I ever again want to take something that is an artificial hormone. Propecia comes to mind. :freaked:
I am trying to cut refined foods and unnecessary chemicals from my system, whenever reasonable possible.
I'd much rather go the nutritional route. And Folligen, Nizoral for scalp health.
I'd consider Minoxidil. And spironolactone, but not yet.
After doing what I am comfortable with to promote regrowth, I'd opt for a hairpiece.

Babie_b,
if your hair loss is the result of your fever, the loss may run its course and you will get some regrowth. Have you read HairLossTalk.com's section on Telogen Effluvium:
http://www.hairlosstalk.com/research/al ... luvium.htm
It may give you some hope.
Whatever you decide, you must be comfortable with your decision. There's a lot of info here to help you make that decision!!

thanx

Thanx everybody for their feedback. Yes, my hairloss is due to a fever, and I think that it has taken it's course. I wash my hair everyday ( don't know if it is wrong) but, I think it's pretty normal, losing about couple hairs in the shower. I don't know if i should use rogaine b/c I thought that Telogen Effluvium is self-correcting? Any advise???
