I'm a month into taking .5mg of Finpecia @ night. I'm noticing that my hair is thinning in the front and I was wondering what's the precentage chance that it will grow back thicker? I was also wondering why people switch from Finpecia to Fincar.

You're one month in? You probably haven't even started responding to the finasteride yet. It takes at least 3 months, longer for many people.

well frontal is the hardest.. so if u respond good to finasteride then maibe 50-25 % chanse for regrowth in front... and its difrent from person to person how much regrowth... its har to put a % on it

The Propecia trial on the anterior mid scalp (front/middle of head) had the following results for the treatment group:
Decrease 5%
No Change 53%
Slight Improvement 38%
Moderate Improvement 4%
Great Improvement 0%

The pics are at propecia.com

Not to pour cold water on the stats but I have lost 2 inches of my hairline, it was solid now very difffuse and actually no hair either side of temples for that depth :( since being on finasteride 4 months and as yet still losing ground. I was only looking for maintenance and concerned its actually accelerated while on finasteride. No regrowth at all...still possible in next few months but I think unlikely.

Unfortunately I will have to buzz it in next week or so as styling it has become impossible.

I would say i'm a worse case scenario as a non responder to finasteride.

Possibly, but I'd still say that it's too early to tell. Remember the earliest you're supposed to see an effect from finasteride is 3 months, 6 months is more usual and 12 months or longer is not unusual.

JM, you wouldn't see obvious change in a mere 2 weeks, and it takes MUCH longer than 2 weeks for finasteride to have any impact.

I been on the big 3 for a little over a year and my best results have been in the front hairline. I have had minimal results on crown. So who knows what works for some may not work for others. By the way I am 44 years old and been losing my hair for 20 years, nothing drastic just some thinning, but I am amazed how much better my hair looks now. Has not been this full in years. Hang in there.

I don't know how old you are but I do know that when my temples went, they went fast like in a month!! It could well be the same in your case, as in the natural deterioration of your hairline. I was completely Norwood zero at the time and thick all over, then Bang!! My temples just went! I'm just thinking if I'd have been on anything like finasteride at the time, I would have definitely blamed it, because the speed of loss just seemed unnatural...

See, this is what I'm wondering about. I'm thinking of starting finasteride, but I need frontal/temporal/hairline maintenance and hopefully regrowth. If finasteride has such a low chance of working on those areas, I'm not sure it's worth going on it right now while my hair is cosmetically OK.

I'm a Norwood 2, imo, btw.

i am experiencing regrowth around the temples
at the front aswell.. my hair is a lot thicker and i can feel the new hairs as they are a lot smaller

i think the quicker you are at dealing with it the more likely you are going to get regrowth at the front

do the scalp excersises too

I don't understand this, killbill. What's your alternative? Well, dutasteride obviously, but some anecdotes (and they are only anecdotes) suggest that is equally modestly effective at the front and temples. But either finasteride or dutasteride will clearly be a whole hell of a lot better than nothing. Remember, the earlier you start these treatments the more hair you'll save.

Yeah waiting and waiting will get you nowhere trust me, the earlier your start the better. I am a NW2 right now and could be easily a Norwood 1 if I had started just a year before.

I had excellent regrowth in the temple and hairline before I had to quit propecia because of sides. I think it works everywhere.

During my first couple of years, I took Propecia only and it helped with the hairline but not the temples. Now a few months on the big3 I'm seeing the first big gains since the late 90's for me, I'm 39.

Old, my crown is getting dark, but I can tell it's going to take a year or more for me to fill it in if it ever does.

Lately my hairline is filling again, I didn't expect it so it's kinda neat.

Hi Klink.

You used Propecia alone or combine with other products such as Rogaine?

Also, which Propecia?
Finestride, Proscar or fincar?

Me used Propecia finestride for 3 months in 2003...no results.
