OK so I've been using Regaine foam for close to 12 weeks now and have had limited success. It's really just stopped me losing hair rather than giving me any real regrowth. However for the last week I've started using Nizoral daily and it's made a great difference. My hair feels so much thicker and healthier and I think it's actually allowing the Regaine foam to work properly. I read somewhere that using Regaine on its own is like pouring water into a leaky bucket and that's how it felt but now I feel like it's doing what it's supposed to do.
I've attached two pictures below so you can compare. These were taken 8 days apart so of course there's a little bit of growth to take into account but overall I'm delighted
UPDATE: 9th Oct
Just want to give a quick update on this thread as to not give anyone reading it false hope. I've realised now that Nizoral and Regaine alone are not going to be enough. For the last week my hair has been thinning very badly. I realise now that at the point I took the second picture, I had been off finasteride for around 5 weeks and the nizoral gave my hair a very healthy and thick appearance. However in the last couple of weeks my hair has started thinning, almost certainly as a result of the DHT building back in my body. As of the 8th Oct I've stopped taking finasteride for 2 months and I now realise that there's no way I'm going to keep my hair without going back on it so I've ordered some more and am going to resume taking it, although in lower dosages.
At this point I realise that the minoxidil has been doing very little, I just assumed that it was allowing me to maintain but now I've started thinning so badly that I realise it was just a case of the DHT still leaving my body. I'm hoping that once I start taking finasteride again the regaine and nizoral will start having a better effect. I do still think Nizoral is an excellent product but I'm guessing it's more for inflammation which is why it gave my hair a very thick and healthy appearance for the first week or so. As a DHT inhibitor it is very poor.
I've put a picture taken earlier today to show where I'm at
