Hi, this is more a sounding off, and I would appreciate any advice about what anyone here thinks might be going on here, and what else they might suggest.

I've been taking propecia 1mg daily for about 5 years now.

I have noticed over some time the lack of morning erections, sometimes watery semen (although not if I 'abstain for a few days - it gets quite thick then); also find it harder than I used to to maintain erections with girlfriends etc; getting a boner is very difficult with girls after drinking alcohol (but then again most guys would find it difficult after the amounts I drink on some nights out!). However it's easier, almost normal if I'm "on my own" which means it's partly psychological and performance anxiety etc as well.

Symptoms alleviated by use of generic v**** etc, no problems then even after drinking a skinful. When I go through healthy phases of working out (weights), drinking protein shakes, taking L arginine and zinc, then I feel that my sexual function seems much better - but those phases are short lived because I'm quite busy with work and I always end up relapsing to being lazy and then drinking and having late nights at weekends a lot.

No ball ache, gynaecomastia or psychological symptoms.

But anyway, I feel like something's not right, and although my hair is great and I'm 28, I really think I should be stopping before it's too late.

I'm a qualified medical doctor myself but specialising in psychiatry now so am far from expert in this area. I will probably be booking myself with a private endocrinologist with an interest in this area, and getting some LH, testosterone , oestrogen etc levels done as a baseline and then monitored, and be considering a gradual reduction in my dosage with an aim to stopping completely within a year.

It's probably due to slightly elevated estrogen level, but when one hormone level changes, some others usually follows. Try 50 - 100 mg of zink a day and see if it gets better, if not, check LH, FSH, testosterone, estrogen, prolactin and SHBG. Get a copy of the numbers and get some more opinions. All of them could be in range, but still give you problems.
