Hi, I'm new here! Really hope this forum members and the community are able to help me. For your information, I'm 19 this year, turning 20 next year. I currently weight 80kg (176lbs) and am 186cm (6ft 1 in). I'm having some issues with my scalp. It is quite difficult to explain, so let a picture speak a thousand words. Apparently, I have less visible hair on the front of my scalp. When I searched online, I do not think this is male pattern baldness as there is absence of the characteristic M shape and my hairline isn't receding. I've had this since 12 years old. It's only the middle and front of my scalp that has less hair as compared to the rest of my scalp and head. Some of my friends have commented that I was balding and some said it could be thinning hair but I am not too certain. I have tried Nizoral Shampoo ( due to its anti- inflammation properties and studies showing it can help with hair growth) but with no visible success. My scalp is fairly oily at the end of the day if that helps ( I suspected oily, clogged pores with sebum that hinder hair growth but not too sure too) I hope the community here can help me with identying my condition as well as suggest some possible causes, treatments for my condition. Do let me know if you need any more information! Thanks in advance! :)

It is true: your hair is thinning, yet the progression is not that which is typical of male pattern baldness.

It is also true that you could be a "diffuse" thinner and this weird thinning is a byproduct of the "diffuse" pattern. I think a derm is necessary here.

What is the crown like?

Dont expect from derm a TRUE diagnose. They mostly talk bullshit and i am 100% sure in this case you will waste your time - cause of weird pattern - 1 of 10 derms will actually hit the current diagnose with succesful status.

but like above, diffuse with weird pattern, something like your crown balding gene misfire your true crown - LOL

We need to collect another opinions

It isn't weird at all, you are losing your hair in a Ludwig Pattern, that's the female hairloss pattern, it is Androgenetic Alopecia tho. Finasteride and Minoxidil are your friend. Seems very far progressed already for 20.

My crown is somewhat ok, I don't really seem too bothered by it. Thanks everyone for your replies, yeah I'm somewhat puzzled by my weird hair loss pattern as compared to the typical male pattern baldness pattern. Does anyone know how effective finasteride or minoxidil is? How Long does it take for it to usually show visible results? This is because I don't want to waste a ton on money on something that has limited effectiveness, I'll rather spend abit more money on something that works. Is Nizoral Shampoo an effective treatment? I've been going at it for about 3 months and seen no visible results though :(

Is it normal for males like me to lose hair in such a pattern typically associated with female pattern hair loss? Especially at such a young age too? I've had such hair loss since 13 years old. Could it be that my testosterone levels are below average?

The pattern itself doesn't indicate anything, it's just how your genetics work. The same underlying cause is DHT. But if you wanna be sure, rule out other things with a blood test
