I am a nw3 , having a hair transplant next january, and thinking about taking finasteride. I already suffer from some Ed becaus of previous use of anti-depressant so i might as well try finasteride since I already have to use v**** most of the time. I am just scared about the permenant sexual side effects of finasteride. How common are permenant sexual sides post finasteride? propeciahelp scares me and the horrible youtube videos.

I see. Do you have permanent sides? The way I saw it: I already have low sex drive and I can't have sex without ED medication so I will need them regardless of Propecia? I have accepted my ED. It will probably be tricky for me to know if my future ED will be the result of Propecia or not. Does that not make any sense? :)

It's pretty much all a bunch of strange people on the internet who have mental disorders that are whining about permanent side effects.

That's a bit harsh. So you think all those people are delusional?

Yes it is harsh. Those who have had success on the drug or who hope for it tend to attack and ridicule finasteride victims so they can can continue to live their dream of keeping hair. Some people don't understand that just because they haven't had sides doesn't mean others don't or won't.

I read the Bald Truth blog, as well as the Rassman hair loss blog, before taking finasteride, which both convinced me that finasteride was perfectly safe, despite what I had seen on propeciahelp. In fact Rassman has a blog up that talks about how he prescribes this crap to his own grown-up children!

So I cautiously took the drug, saw sides, and quit after 2 weeks. 2 months after quitting, I am still suffering greatly from side effects which haven't abated at all. It is ruining my life.

One thing I would like to stress is that the permanent/persisting sides are NOT limited to sexual sides. Among the non-sexual sides I have had since taking and discontinuing the drug that have NOT resolved are: Crippling insomnia(frequent awakenings, no REM sleep), constant muscle twitching, frequent urination(I'm talking urinating every 30 minutes, with a constant urge to go 24/7), extreme difficulty urinating/weak stream, and constipation. This stuff can really F up your health. I feel like an 80 year old man dealing with this crap, and I'm only 28.

For me, the non-sexual stuff has been far worse than the sexual sides I've had(shrunken, narrowed penis/no libido/yellow semen/ED). Yes the odds that this will happen to you are probably small, but it's NOT worth the risk just for hair. Just my 2 cents.

Stupid question, but is there anyway to see if some individuals are more likely to get sides than others? Maybe a bloodtest before treatment could tell you something?

14 mg of propecia did not do that to you, sorry

No there isn't. Nobody even knows why finasteride has this effect on some men. You are totally leaving it to chance if you decide to take it.

I never would have believed it either man. I still don't believe it and I cry everyday when I think about it. It's not fair. I've only been off 9 weeks, so maybe there's some hope, but it seems like something new is popping up every week, and nothing is resolving.

The post-finasteride "crash" seems to be independent of the duration you took it. That's what I didn't understand before I took the drug. I thought all the permanent/persistent sides were in guys who took it for a long time, gradually developed bad sides, quit, and the sides stayed.

My advice to you is to stop reading about the side effects, the brain is a powerful tool and if you think something can happen to you it's more likely it will
