Hey Bostonbaldy thats bad combination. First of all taking Accutane is known to cause hairloss but not permanent, your hair will come back once you stop taking the medication but since your having hairloss already I wouldnt risk loosing the hair that you have. Both medications will affect your hormones but I can't jump to conclusion how your body will react to both pills but I'm sure you will experience a lot of sides. I took accutane in high school but stop after 3 months of a lot of sides. As you well know reading different forums here that some people received acne from taking propecia and some has cured acne but its not scientifically proven. I guess the question is would you have rather a clearer skin or hair? As for me I would pick clearer skin

Accutane might make you lose some hair, but I don't think it will adversely affect your liver, considering you only take accutane for about 5 months or so.

Tainted-Meat I never indicated that It will affect your liver but in my opinion I just don't think its a good idea to take medications.

I don't think that accuatane affects your hormones muathai187, I think it just shrinks your sebaceous glands so that they can't secrete as much oil and block your pores. Also, hairloss from accutane CAN be permanent especially those who already have male pattern baldness.

The accutane definately affects your liver, thats why you have to get blood tests to check your liver enzymes.

Make up you mind, first you wrote "but I don't think it will adversely affect your liver" then you wrote" The accutane definetly affects your liver". I'm sorry your just not making any sense .Whats the purpose of the bold letters? Are we back in school? LOL ......................
Hormones is connected with your sebaceous glands. Sebaceous glands make almost no sebum in childhood but during puberty this changes along with the rest of your body. These changes are due to natural substances (called hormones) that are made by your body. These hormones change your body into that of an adult and make your sebaceous glands grow and produce large amount of sebum. The sebaceous glands that make the most sebum are located on the face, back and chest.

Okay, so no one really knows, haha. I remember Dr. Rassman on his "baldingblog" said that they don't interact. I am somewhat concerned about overtaxing the liver, though. Accutane is basically vitamin A, which in high doses taxes the liver. I have no conerns about hormones. Propecia (and avodart) also tax the liver, I think, but I don't believe as much.

I'm thinking about taking milk thistle while I am on my propecia (or maybe avodart) and accutane routine.

Oh, and accutane does cause hair loss (usu. temporary unless associated with male pattern baldness). However my understanding is that dermatologists in the USA give you WAY too much accutane, like 60-80mg. If you take less accutane (at say, 10-30mg) per day than the side effects are much, much less. No reports of hair loss from lower doses, from my understanding.

so I think I will go with a LOW-DOSE accutane and propecia.

Boston, don’t listen to anyone else. There is no medical reason to avoid taking Propecia & Accutane concomitantly. Every one else talking out of their ***.

I do not believe you have hormonal changes, but your skin gets dry as f*** because your sebaceous glands are shrinking. Think about a constricted water hose. I do not think that Accutane will affect your liver being that you are only on it for five months. I drank like a fish when I was on it and I was fine, but the derm told me it wasn't recommended. If you tried to take this stuff long term, of course it is going to adversly affect your liver. If you drink 10 beers a day for the course of a week, your liver is fine. If you drink 10 beers a day over a number of years, your liver is going to be torn up.

I admit I am no doctor but I would have no qualms about taking dutasteride/propecia with accutane.
