Propecia and Libido

Propecia zaps my libido.

Yes I'm getting older (39) and that may factor in, but I'm in otherwise good health and the boner is not as responsive as it once was.

Spontaneous erections are a thing of the past.

I've taken some time off Propecia and had a more responsive unit.

The mind-boner connection seems to be disrupted. My thing doesnt "show" as well as before either.

Question: any recommendations on meds or supplements that can renew the connection between my brain and my boner? I'd like to have that natural, spontaneous and fun dopamine (?) rush again.

I would save yourself the trouble of trying all the weird unproven stuff people are about to suggest and just get some v**** or Cialis. Not only has it proven to be incredibly safe but incredibly effective as well.

Thanks Doug. I havent tried those -- my Doctor suggested they would help the erection, but the mood and spontaneity would not be there.

Thank you.

Unfortunately there is not really a good solution to that latter problem.

From a leading health site:
As men age past year 35, hormonal changes occur that perceptibly inhibit physical, sexual, and cognitive function. The average male in his 40's has only 33% to 50% of the level of androgen (testosterone) he has in his twenties.

So your probably thinking a testosterone supplement would fix this, and you would be right.

That is why there have been a ton of studies done on hormone replacement therapy in men. And it actually has been shown to work - at the cost of an increased risk of heart attack, stroke and prostate cancer.

The consensus in the medical community is that it is not worth the risk. (Some) doctors will still prescribe testosterone therapy after letting you know the risks. Androgel is usually what people use.

Kind of overkill when you know discontinuing Propecia would be safer. Maybe in your case it would make sense to just make do with something like Rogain and then in another 10 years you could consider Propecia when your sex drive might not be of such a concern (depressing I know). By then you might need it for BPH anyway.
