I'm not doctor, so maybe someone can answer this more completely..but as far as I know..it shouldnt be a problem. Many people have kids/have sex while on finasteride.

Now dutasteride on the other hand, I have heard that you should not have unprotected sex with someone if you're on it becasue it can be in your semen and possibly affect hormone levels of the person you're having sex with. Again..someone more educated should confirm this

Pregnant women,SHOULD,i repeat SHOULD NOT touch broken pills of finasteride AND dutasteride, and you have to make protected sex(condoms),while she is pregnant.

Max: I've definitely heard the thing about broken pills. I was under the impression though that finasteride was not present in semen if men taking it, therefor it was ok. Is this wrong? Merck does't give any sort of warning about this if I recall correctly

Cause merck, are morons...i am from bulgaria, and i am using Proscar (finasteride) and in the leaflet (i am not sure this is the word, translated from google translate, sorry if it's some bullshit)and it's told that pregnant women should not even touch broken pills...so,i think this is not a joke,it's dangerous not only for the girl,it's dangerous for the baby,so..use condoms and be careful, dont let your girlfriend touch broken pills, hide it better :) wish you healthy and beautiful kid.good luck

I was under this assumption also.

Yes it says for them not to touch broken pills..but this is because they could end up ingesting the drug directly

According to what I've heard it does not show up in a guy's sperm. I would ask a doctor, but I have never heard anyone have a problem with this or any reputable person give the warning that you should use a condom while on finasteride. the woman is not having direct contact with the substance

You are 100% fine to have unprotected sex with her. There was a study done on this with monkeys. Pregnant monkeys were given doses "60-750 times the semen levels of finasteride in man given orally 5 or 1 mg/day, respectively" in an IV dose. The results were as follows " no abnormalities were observed in either male or female fetuses of mothers given iv doses (8, 80, or 800 ng/day) of finasteride during pregnancy"

So, as long as you're not taking about 1500mg of finasteride a day...you should be just fine :)
