My dermatologist gave me a prescription for Avodart 0.5mg, so I have been on Avodart since September 2007. I had been on Propecia 1mg a day since September 2006, but believing all the Avodart hype, I stopped Propecia once I started Avodart in Sep 2007 to save the $200 every 3 months.....I then increased avodart dosage to 1mg a day since January 2008
However, months 3-5 on avodart I noticed alot of shedding, resulting in thinning in the front.....Panicking, I quickly got back on Propecia this month (Feb 2008), so now here I am in the 6th month of Avodart (but back down to 0.5mg a day, Mon-Fri, until studies come out proving its safe, I'm not increasing dosage) and Propecia 1mg a day. I've added Rogaine 5% to my routine, which I just do once a night all over. I feel my hair is improving now...I was only off Propecia for 5 months after having been on it for a year, so it must have kicked in much quicker this time.
I believe the avodart shedding is behind me, although the rogaine may cause another initial period of sheding, but I dread how my hair will look if I still have both sheddings to get through....
I will keep all posted. The next six months on Avodart should tell everything about it's effectiveness , and it better grow back the hair it cost me in the shedding period. I was stupid to stop propecia since that is proven to maintain, and avodart is just a bunch of fairy tell myths and negative testimonials from people
