Propecia / DHT

Hi everyone.

this is my first post oh here although I have been a visitor for quite sometime. I willgive my history of hairloss another time in full but I'm 38yrs old and finally decided to take some type of action about this whole nightmare. I live in the UK and have seen many different "specialists" on this subject and it seems everyone has a different opinion on Propecia / DHT blocking. Some have told me to avoid Propecia as it would be the biggest mistake of my life and others have told me I have nothing to worry about, I even got a scrip from a Harley St doctor but I can't seem to pluck up the nerve to go with it. It's not just the side effects that concern me so much it's also the fact that I have been told by more than one doctor that blocking DHT is not a good thing, it seems that the line which most people who push Propecia have is that you only use DHT twice in your life and it is only there to give us zits and hairloss but I have been told by others that blocking DHT causes propblems everywhere including the brain's nervous system, apart from the side effects we all know about has anyone actually felt kind of different after taking it?
I also came across this article which was a very interesting read which you guys might want to check out

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/reform8.htm

If anyone is interested I will give you my story as I am fascinated by reading all of your posts, I might take the plunge soon anyway as it really is now starting to take over my life and I don't go a single day without thinking about my hairloss. would also be interested to hear what some of you think about that article or if you have heard anything similar or anything to discount that. Anyway it's good to have finally posted and even though i don't know any of you I feel that I do if you know what I mean.

Peace
Greg

Blocking DHT doesn't "cause problems everywhere". The pseudohermaphrodites in the Dominican Republic who have a natural deficiency of 5AR2 and DHT have been studied for years and appear to have no clinical abnormalities (apart from genital development - you need DHT in early life). But these individuals don't suffer from male pattern baldness, BPH or prostate cancer. Some of the side effects of finasteride may have been overstated.

The hermaphrodite thing would be a good analogy if ALL Finasteride did was eliminate DHT. But like any drug, there's no such thing as laser-precision. Every drug has side-effects... ie, effects other than the one you want.

Some guys get reduced testosterone on finasteride. Just look around the internet and you'll see more than a few reports. Endocrine stuff is complex and often you can't just change one factor without lots of other factors jumping in to try to compensate for the change.

I doubt propecia is that dangerous. I do worry a bit about avodart though, but not so much for health, but because I'd just like more DHT in a few places for now.

This is why I think topicals are so good. No side effects.

you are right, i mean vaccines, transplants, medications, plastic surgeries...

I was going to defend myself but I stand by what I said. The human body is not an area where science works that well. Penicillin right of course. Most drugs I know have side effects and in some cases the drug makers dont understand why. Most cases arent as cut and dry where a drug is clearly beneficial like penicillin most of the time your weighing sides verse benefit and its a much closer call.
I can sit around and mention instances where peoples immune systems are destroyed by new treatments that were maybe the next major breakthrough as they always hype.

Vaccines, transplants, and cosmetic surgeries are very very far from perfect my friend and why is that? because science is not as good at the human body as it is in say physics or chemistry or exact sciences where you can test things in a laboratory. Certainly anyone would agree with that.
