Propecia for Hairline, yay or nay?

Ok I'm about a 2 on the norwood scale, almost 21 years old. Had a high(er) forehead even before puberty so my recession probably isn't even that bad. I first really noticed it about a year ago and it may have progessed a little more. I think I just think about it more because I just got out of a long relationship and I'm more self-conscious. I think I may be diffuse as well (not quite sure as I was always on the thinner side) but as far as I can tell I have no thinning at the crown (yet). I have two male relatives (uncle and grandfather both on fathers sides) that were 5a or 6s but all my other relatives have "mature hairlines". Assuming the worst, that I'm destined to lose at the crown/vertex as well I know propecia would be in my best interest. On the other hand, if I'm not destined for higher Norwood numbers, couldn't propecia hurt my current hairline? Can propecia work for norwood 2s at maintaing or possibly regrowing? Should I assume the worst and jump on propecia anyways? I'm still coming to grips with my current hairline and want to do my best to prevent worsening...

Anyone have some advice?

If your genetics are truely rockin then being on propecia isnt going to hurt your hairline.

Ill say that again.

PROPECIA WILL NOT CAUSE YOUR HAIRLINE TO DIE.

If you're a NW2, I would get on it. I started losing hair when I was 17-18 and am a NW2 atm. I have only been taking propecia for 8 months. So far, I haven't noticed any major further recession or side affects from taking the pill.

Yes, start taking Propecia now. If it´s too expensive for you, just buy Proscar (same thing but 5mg instead of 1mg) and split it in 4. Taking 1.25mg daily isn´t really going to make much difference from taking 1mg.

I would take the decision to start propecia very seriously and not jump into anthing. Remember that propecia will affect ALL of your hair, and not just your hairline. In other words, if it's not broken, don't fix it. Alot of people report shedding at the 3 month mark, and a lot of them claim that it didn't all grow back. My advice would be to try to find something that you can focus more on your hairline (like topicals), and monitor everything for a few months, and then if you later find that you are thinning on top as well, then you can make an informed decision on adding another form of treatment.

for me, propecia stopped my recession and i actually started to grow back my hairline. however, i did have a lot of shedding of the entire rest of my hair because finasteride affects ALL of your hair.

I'm basically a Norwood 1.5. I wish I had started at the first sign of temple recession. It's easier to maintain than to grow back miniturized hairs. You can start working with Generic Minoxidil too, 1x at night just to get started.

if 1.25mg costs too much, cut it eights. just take finasteride at the dose you can budget. how do all these people with sheds know their hair was not going to shed anyway? maybe they got on finasteride just in time, though some might have got fakes.

Will you quit posting about fakes?! There is no evidence whatsoever about fake finasteride and I have seen you mention fakes 3 times in the only 3 threads that I have read here in the past 3 months.

Serously stop posting like a know it all when you don't. Generics are fine and they are cheaper, 100s of dollars a year cheaper. I think you keep posting that crap to justify your own wasting of money on "real" finasteride.

Think of it this way. What about those on generic finasteride who are in the freak out stage? Do they really need your BS to add to their paranoia? Of course not. So cut the crap and stick to the facts.

Excuse me, but perhaps you'd better read some of his other posts. He has been very helpful on this forum since he started posting here. There are many on this forum that are concerned about the generics being fake long before "college" started posting here. He is in fact, going to be testing some of the various generics produced in India to verify that they indeed contain the correct amount of the active ingredient to help put peoples minds at ease. He has done nothing but go out of his way for people here and my guess is he knows more of "the facts" than most. As a side note...I don't think his mention of fakes was referring to the generics. There have been reports of bad Proscar being shipped from overseas.

Yes, use finasteride, 1 mg or 1.25 mg. It worked on my hairline quite nicely, as well as filling in my crown. And I experienced no shedding.
