I've been on propecia and rogaine for over 4 years. I'm 23 years old, I live a healthy and active life style other than drink with friends on the weekends. I have a unique shade of red hair and brown eyebrows (born with it). My hair loss really started to worsen however, about 1.5 years ago. I had been using rogaine, propecia, and a laser comb (on and off) since the very onset of recognizing any form of hair loss 4 years ago. No one had ever even known i was on it, my hair looked perfect. Now my hair is thinning in the back of my neck, the hair texture has changed around my ears, and it seems everywhere i apply rogaine is where i'm losing hair. about 3 months back i noticed i had nipple discharge. looked it up and read it happened to some people, i didnt even recognize until about a day ago that propecia can cause this and according to everything i've read it seems like i might be Fu***d.

So now i have two problems. Obviously this stuff isn't working for my hair and i may have male breast cancer. Pretty pumped...

I've checked for some of the other symptoms of breast cancer and I don't think I have them. I'm going to call a doctor tomorrow and I'm not even sure what kind of doctor to call.

Also I don't want to lose my hair, I don't understand how I could be taking all this stuff religiously for 4 years and it seems like its the cause of my hair loss. I'm not sure what to do in regards to still trying to prevent further loss.

I've followed various forums for years and always tried to understand the various aspects of hair loss. with that being said i don't have a clue what to do.

I could use some really helpful advice right about now fellas.

Thanks a bunch,

Kevin

I don't think I have ever seen someone report nipple discharge while taking Propecia, but it is certainly a possibility. I can say this with almost 100% certainty: you do not have male breast cancer. It is an extremely rare cancer in men, and most common in men who are in their 60's or 70's. It's almost unheard of in men under 40, and you're probably more likely to be struck by lightning twice than get it at the age of 23.

Nipple discharge usually results from a build up of glandular tissue. Men who take steroids often end up with this symptom. The cause in your case is likely due to increased estrogen levels which can result from taking finasteride. This increase is usually slight (15%) but can be compounded by other factors. If you are overweight or drink a lot of alcohol, resolving those issues will help significantly.

Your pattern of hair loss (back of the neck, around the ears) does not sound like typical male pattern baldness, and may be caused by another condition called Alopecia areata. Neither propeciaor rogaine would be very effective treating this condition. Did you see a dermatologist to find out if your hair loss was being caused by male pattern baldness?

See a general practitioner or family doctor about your nipple issues, and make sure you let them know you are taking finasteride. I would also go see a dermatologist to get your hair loss diagnosed, as it could potentially be Alopecia areata. Best of luck Kevin!

Wow! Sorry man. That must have added more stress above and beyond the hair loss itself. Have you approached a professional regarding this concern? Is it because of another condition? Although, I am almost certain that it could be the hair loss meds, but this is my first time to hear of this.

I would love to know how this turned out, should you get any professional help man.

You might want to consider hair transplant, perhaps?
