Propecia mental effects

Hi,

I'm a 23-year old male with slight recession at the temples. I've been on Propecia for about 4-weeks now. I noticed only slight sexual side effects. I do think I have noticed a very slight cognitive impairment, though. For everyone who says that claiming mental side effects is utter bullsh*t, you're probably right, but I'd like to ask this here, nonetheless.

I'm an artist--this is the only place I find Propecia affecting me (i.e. with my creativity). Anyone else have a similar experience, where the mental sides were not horrible, but just seemed to impair the creative mindset? I also have suffered anxiety and depression, but these did not affect my creative side, at least not to the extent that they made me feel "dull" like this.

I've been posting on a ton of forums since I noticed this. Any advice/annecdotes are appreciated.

I've been taking finasteride for 13 years, no side effects whatsoever. The only mental effect it had was make me not worry about hair loss anymore.

You have already told us that you suffer from anxiety and depression. These mental disorders will eventually give you mental block, tiredness, fatigure and hence, interrupt your creativeness.

I have been on propecia for 8 years and no side effects.

See a doctor. In this day and age, no one should feel ashamed to go to the doctor.

If you are really embarrassed go to your local supermarket and take some St John's wort supplements after each meal. Also do some exercise. This will get your mind clear and you will become more energetic.

If you are women on the pill, do not take St' John's wort.

Either google the supplement as you will know what I mean.

The mental effects of propecia *are* real. I suffered from serious effects a few years ago, and without a warning on the box of pills, i never connected the two, and continued right on taking it.

However, there is also the chance that this could all be a pre-existing condition, or all in your mind. The mind is very powerful.

I've decided after a few years now to get back on propecia, only take the dosage at 0.25mg, which is supposed to be nearly as effective.

I'd recommend maybe trying to lower your dosage to 0.25mg, and see if that helps rid you of the side effects? It would be an interesting experiment.... I'd love to hear how it went for you if you did try it.

Did you notice any positive hair results with only 0.25mg of finasteride? I've actually already started doing this--I think I'm going to experiment with .25-.5mg every day/every other day. Think I'll see any results with this?

I haven't tried it yet (i'm nevous about it).
Did you have side effects at 1mg, and ahve you avoided them with 0.25?

I only just started. I can't even really tell if I'm having any mental side effects or if it's all in my head. Mental side effects were very minimal with 1mg but I don't want any. I'm going to try the .5 every other day for a few weeks, stop it for a week or so, and if I don't notice anything strange, then continue to on that regimen.

Hey Joe,

I'd really recommend cutting it into quarters and trying 0.25 EVERY DAY, from my research, it's more important to keep a steady flow in your system.

Please do keep me posted on how this ends up working for you. If you avoid side effects, that's a majorly important thing to communicate to the rest of us thinking of giving this a second go at a lower dose.

Thx!
