I have bad hair loss on the top of my head and the front. One year ago I decided to do something about it. I went on Propecia 1mg for 5 months.
After about 2 weeks, my sex drive diminished significantly. Specifically, I was not very interested in sex, and if I did have a sexual encounter, the ole hydraulics did not work as well. Erections were weak/soft and short lived. In fact, the entire orgasm itself was no where near as enjoyable as before. (Sorry to be graphic, but seriously, something had really changed for the worse).
So, I decided to give the situation some time. Month after month passed, and no improvement in the sex dept. Apparently, I was one of the unlucky ones that actually experiences significant sexual side effects from this drug. In fact, the entire time I was on the drug, this did not impove at all.
Ok, here's the good part, after about 3 to 4 months I noticed my hair loss had slowed down a lot. And around the 4 month mark I felt that the top had probably thickened up somewhat. I think. It was very subtle. Just something I noticed after getting a short haircut one day.
But, the sexual side effects continued, I gave it another month, and after 5 months I had enough, I got off propecia and was just using Nizoral shampoo, nothing else.
People always ask, how long does it take for the sexual side effects to totally go away? Well, I stopped propecia at the end of August, and it wasn't until February of this year that my libido and sexual function was back to 100%. It took a while!
Something that is also worth noting, I experienced a VERY bad shed about 3 months after going off the propecia. This lasted about 3 months. I'm still losing hair, but not at that ridiculous rate.
I tried Dr. Lee's 5% spironolactone creme as an alternative for a couple of weeks. Only to realize that its not realistic to think one can apply this stuff once a day to such a large area of their head. Maybe a smaller area like the temples, but not the entire top of my head. Ain't gonna happen.
Here we are now, one year later, I bought some more propecia and started taking 0.5 mg a week ago. I was hoping the lower dosage would result in decreased sexual side effects. But after about 3 days, I'm having the same sexual side effects as before.
So I figure I can do one of two things:
1) Either stay on propecia at this lower dosage, and try some kind of sexual libido booster supplement or something, and see if anything can restore my equipment to its former glory. Or see if in time the side effects go away (which I am very doubtful that they would considering they didn't even change at all in a 5 month span last year).
OR
2) Throw out the propecia and try something less proven for 6 months like Revivogen.
So, I guess my questions to all you fine people are:
A) Is there anything out there that will improve sexual function and libido.
(I've heard talk of GNC Megaman vitamens, but what is in this multi-that makes such a difference??)
B) Is there any hope of propecia side effects actually going away after a longer stint on this stuff? (I don't know about yall, but a healthy sex drive is a very important part of a happy life if you ask me). (The way things were last year, there is NO Way I could have had a normal sexual relationship).
C) Would I be wasting my time just trying minoxydl alone?
Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions.
