well guys, its been 1 full year on the finasteride/nizoral combo... took pics every 3 months for progress. I see the same hair in the mirror everyday so I turn to you guys for advice. What do you think? What Norwood level am I? Any other suggestions? I took pics finally with my hair down rather than pulled back so you can see the cosmetic effect. This is also proof why i think those with just temple recession are better off growing their hair out rather than the short and clean. I feel at the worst I have maintained what I have WITHOUT 1 SIDE EFFECT. I am living proof of the "98%" who don't come on here and it is true what they say... when you are maintaining you dont feel like coming on here, only when you are down is when you come to complain that propecia is giving you D cups. SO to those on propecia who have doubts, stick with it, it WORKS.

Any additional input you guys have would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Great job, man.

It looks good, and you're right: it looks great when you grow it out.

Any shedding the first year?

aplunk,

the first 6 months i would go through a shed every 2 months and just assumed it came with the territory (i was prepared for it from the boards). BUt after the 6 months, i completely forgot about it. Then it hit me that I had stopped shedding. Granted, I find 1 or 2 hairs here and there on my pillow, desk, keyboard... but thats 1 or 2. Just as a social experiment i started looking around and trust me, there is hair EVERYWHERE... like every floor, couch, desk you look at. This made me even more convinced that alot of hairloss is in your head. Granted I know I am about an Norwood 2 but in my head its creeping toward a 2.5. To everyone else, people who arent even balding, and most of the girls i know think im stupid for saying I am losing my hair.

It is MENTAL. i am convinced.

glad i could help the confidences.... quick question to anyone reading... i am 22 years old... since my loss is fairly new (i first noticed right after i turned 21)... do you think i have a chance at filling in my temples or should i just kiss those goodbye?

Looks like you thickened all over but only made a slight improvement in your temples. Hopefully you can regain your temples so that'll give me hope that I can regain mine too. Overall though, your hair looks great....

And thanks for not being one of those guys who got results and never bothered to come back and share their story.... newbies to finasteride like myself appreciate it.

There is no doubt about the fact that at the least you have maintained what you had. I think there may be some thickening too but hard to say with pics.

and yeah I guess unless you pull your hair back and show it, people will think you are a freak if you say you have hairloss :)

I have hairloss similar to yours ( mostly at the temples ) and I know I can hide it with long hair...but my hair is fuckin curly and dry..makes it impossible..I wish I had softer hair like yours...

BTW...Are you stayin away from minoxidil ? If applying it seems like a pain to you...try Dr. Lee's..very convenient

Good Luck

thanks for the replies guys....as for minoxidil, the only place i think i could really benefit from is the temples and i am just leery about it bc the propecia really did wonders on my diffuse thinning in my hair where it was diffuse, but my temples i feel are pretty much shot. i am going to give propecia another year and see if it can work anything on the temples and if not, ill try some minoxidil where there is no hair and hope for the best. Right now i just want to maintain what i have bc like i said earlier, while i do have lost, its undetectable when my hair is grown out long. oh yeah, one more thing... any guess on my Norwood?

cheers!

i think thats a good idea. the temples are the areas where all of us have the most trouble regrowing. dont expect them to come back, and if they do even just slightly, youll be pleasantly surprised.

your hair looks good in the messy look. no visible thin spots, overall i wouldnt look at your hair twice thinking you were losing it if i saw u on the street.

I've been on finasteride for probably around 8 months now and i can say for a fact that my shedding has almost stoped, this morning before going to work in the shower i decided to count the hair that came out of my head... i counted 7, im so excited about that number, last october i would normally get at least 30, but the great thing about the hairs i got out today was that they were all dark and healthy, which i assume means that since the follicle they're from doesnt have any damage that they'l grow back just as strong.

P.s. the long hair thing really helps, my temples have gotten the sh*t kicked out of them, but overall i have pretty thick hair (NOW, thanks to finasteride) that i keep my hair grown out so that my hair loss is undetectable.
I just hate windy days, lol, that one gust will completly blow my hair back and then my naked temples will be exposed.
