Propecia or in my head?

I'm very new to finasteride. Have't even finished my 1st month supply (almost done with week 3). I'm having ED, insomnia, and depression but I can't be sure if it's the drug or just me reading these crazy stories here and also the PFS forum and getting psyched out. I've been feeling down about life even prior to the drug. I've always been a strong performer and have only had this issue a few times before in my life whereby I was also depressed.

Either way I'd like to quit, but want to know the best way to approach this. Should I go cold turkey or ween off. The thing about weening off is it will require me to still take the drug, but with only three weeks under my belt, it may do more harm to continue. It seems like quite the predicament.

Oh boy... Thats tough to answer. How often are you reading these stories? Were you worried about sides since you before you started? What kind of ed? Total, or just eh maybe not as strong of erections or less desire? Ive had some possible non sexual sides. But my urologist doesn't believe its from the Finasteride. He also said he prescribes 5mg daily all day long and about 1 out of 100 will have lower libido and or ED and thats after years of taking it. I just saw him Tuesday. Im having pelvic pain and lower back pain. I have have no sexual sides though. I was terrified to start Finasteride and worried myself into a frenzy in the beginning... Id say give it 2 more weeks, stay off the Internet and especially propecia help. Try to relax even meditate if your familiar with meditation and breathing techniques. If your still not any better or feel its not worth it. Id slowly kinda taper off over a few weeks. Make a dr appointment also and maybe talk to him. Try not to worry, the mind can and will do funny things. Good Luck man! -Anthony

Also a month or two on finasteride wont cause you persistent side effects . Dr's still Aren't sure if PFS even exists and if it does its less than 1% of patients

Not to say to say the people who claim PFS Aren't suffering but as someone who has suffered with an anxiety disorder and depression since age 17 (34 now) i know all to well the power of the mind and negative thinking in general and its affect on the body

Lately I've been reading them more and more. Last night was full ED. I'm not really sure I needed to take this stuff to begin with. My balding seems to have taken place over a long time which also makes it difficult for me to evaluate the efficacy. I don't seem to lose many hairs in any one particular day and don't think I've experienced any shedding even prior to the drug.

To what extent do people shed? Is it noticeable? When I'm in the shower, it's not uncommon for me to lose a few strands (maybe 10) when I'm putting shampoo in (have never noticed the drain getting a ton of hair all of a sudden). This is all before the drug. I'll also find several on my pillow each morning (maybe 10 again). Do I really need this drug to begin with?

Right now I'm using a bunch of other stuff (i.e. minoxidil woth dermaroller, nizol shampoo, regenpure NT, and biotin). Just bought some Perfect Hair Solutions minoxidil (5% + 5% AA). People seem to get good results with just those alone.

as far as shedding i cant answer that. I Don't shed much, 1-3 hairs on my hands after i shampoo, i always check lol. I still have 90% of my hair also so im not the Best to answer questions on shedding. Didn't seem to shed yet on finasteride, my hair just took off with this stuff. After about a month the health of my hair was crazy better and it got darker and stronger. I don't know how old you are or how far your hair loss has progressed so i cant really answer if i think you need finasteride either. I know some people have decent results from minoxidil, so maybe it could be enough for awhile at least, but it wont do anything to lower dht levels, Which just assualts your hair if its genetically programed to be affected. Its a tough call. I almost quit finasteride bc of my pelvic pain, but i hung in there and i seem to be getting better and my hair definitely is. Idk i wish i had better advice for you man. I do wish you the best of Luck and if there is any other questions you have, ill answer them for you at the best of my ability -Anthony

Sorry but they are sure, there's multiple stories of people not recovering after 8+ years. PFS is real, call it what you like but what it is, it's that the side effects don't away or they do for a week or two just to have your endocrine system crash completely afterwards and it stays like that. Do a proper research before you inform people here on the forums, do you wanna take responsibility if this guy gets the irreversible side effects?? Or are you going to just say: "Oh well, you can go and join the propeciahelp.com club now."
no they're not, i just met with two. One a hair transplant dermatologist a member of IAHRS and a urologist who prescribes 5mg of proscar everyday for over a decade. I thought oh god its the evil propecia causing all my pelvic pain and lower back pain oh god its all true, propeciahelp is right...Nope i have misdiagnosed Urethritis and hypotonic pelvic floor muscles. There's probably something happening, but its always online. Real live dr' s aren't seeing it. Im as nervous to take propecia as the next guy, look at my older threads. Im not trying to argue or claim im right or your wrong. Maybe i am wrong... I just feel there is to much scare and horror stories going around with zero confirmation.

I Don't mean to sound Confrontational, im truly not. I was just trying help this original poster stop freaking out, bc its scary When you keep hearing all this as your swallowing your daily pill. This guy has only taken it 3 weeks, i was only trying to assure him he will be ok

Yes propecia causes side effects and i believe its nowhere near as benign as good ol merck Would like us to believe. But What sold me on taking Finasteride after 2 years of "ill never take that poison" was dr haber an IAHRS Transplant dr, who said i couldn't ethically do a transplant on you bc you have to much hair and Never charged me a dime. Recommended i start propecia. He explained the sides risks and im thinking... Idk about this... Then He says "i still take it, and have for 15 years, and my son has also been onit since 19, he's 22 now." i have believe that over anything i read online or ill just have panic attack all day over taking Finasteride, seriously i have an anxiety disorder

Sonicblue congratulations on the good news.
hey thanks man! I appreciate that for real. Its been a rough and scary 2-3 Months. I still got some healing to do, ive only been on the proper antibiotic for 2 days, but yesterday i almost felt 100% normal! Not quite as good this morning, but of course it will take time for the antibiotic to fully work and my poor pelvic muscles to calm and heal lol they also prescribed me rectal diazepam for 3 weeks to help the muscles heal.... Oh boy, this has been quite the experience!

On a side note. My prostate is 100% healthy and normal. This was my first prostate exam and while it wasn't pleasant, its nowhere near as bad as everyone makes it out to be! LOL

I stopped taking finasteride yesterday. Ordered RU58841 ingredients. Gonna make my own per getalife site. Will see how it works. I didn't see but maybe a couple hairs removed from shower. This must have happened to me so gradually. Still, will take RU.

Would like to know how long I can expect side effects to normally remain upon halting the medication. Also, to what is the "feeling" of DHT returning best compared?

You can find it on the getalife website.

It's been 4 days since cessation and I feel like my libido has returned. Everything seems normal now.
