Propecia over the age of 41?

Hi all.

Since no official studies have been conducted on the effects of Propecia on men over 41, can anyone here provide clear insight on whether or not it’s even worth considering? I just turned 41, and have invested many hours into Google searches, as well as reading through these forums, yet have had no luck in finding any discussion on this topic.

Any insight into this mystery would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

propecia will generally protect existing hair count, and will not necessarily regrow hair. If you want to try and save the hair you have, then propecia is your ticket. You could possible regrow the hair youve lost in the past few years, but you will have better succuss using propecia in conjunction with a growth stimulator, such as minoxidil. If you are afraid of side effects, many have found topical spironolactone to be an equal replacement to propecia.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by an "official" study, but here's an Israeli trial which found a benefit from finasteride in older men: "Improvement in Androgenetic Alopecia in 53-76 Year-Old Men Using Oral Finasteride", Brenner et al, International Journal of Dermatology 1999, 38, 926-930.

Appreciate the responses.

Sorry. I should have been more specific. I still have plenty of hair to save, and yes I’m mindful of the fact the Propecia will protect the 'existing' hair count. It’s the study thing I was wondering about. Pretty much every site that sells Propecia posts the official testing trials, which clearly state that these tests were done on a group of males 18 to 41.

I realize, that just because testing has not extended beyond age 41, does not necessarily mean it will not work. I was just wondering if anyone had started on it at this age or beyond, and could share results.

And thanks also Bryan. That’s sort of an idea of what I was looking for.

Again, and extended thanks to both of you for your replies.
