Around October 2006 I asked a question on this forum - 'Should we tell ...'

Independently, both my wife and I noticed a bald spot starting on on our son's head in July '06. There was definitely nothing visible in the Spring of that year so it was worsening at a fast rate. He was nearly 21 years old. After good advice on this forum we told him what we had seen and discussed various possibilities including doing nothing. He wanted as little fuss as possible so the regime was to be Propecia (later changed to Proscar), Proxiphen and Nizoral - though I did buy dutasteride. with Liposomes - never used after advice and eventually leaked in the fridge. The photos show at least maintenance.

Dosage: Proscar cut into about sixths, Proxiphen once a day when hair damp and nizoral. about every other day.

The latest picture, Jan '08, looks like the hair is longish but in fact it was short on top. Besides maintenance, the hair looks thicker.

not bad i personally would of just started with the proscar for 2 years and see if that mantained and thickened a bit along with nizoral, and save the proxiphen when he needs to regrow. in the first pic he looked a bit thinning i think propecia would of thickened crown good and help for 5 plus years on its own.

Yes, in hindsight that should have been a consideration. It seemed to be very aggressive and we wanted to get things sorted before he went back to University after the summer vacation. The photos don't quite show what it originally looked like when a light was above his head. The thinning was (suddenly) very obvious and now it isn't, so if there has been any extra growth due to Proxiphen, then all well and good.

I cannot comment without seeing the baseline pics.

His hair looks perfectly normal now.

RaginDemon,

Thanks for the comment. It isn't quite baseline as in reality you can still see a bit more scalp. About a month after we told him, a friend in a nightclub announced, "xxx is going bald." (Where xxx is my son). The ironic thing is that person has now lost much of his hair. Another example my son told me is when he was at school, a friend of his 'playfully mentioned' to a teacher about his (the teacher's) baldness. The teacher said, "one day William, one day." Four years later that student is at least a NW4 and shaved.

Those pics don't really show much hair loss to be honest.

RaginDemon,

The pictures may not show the full extent of thinning on top but it was very noticeable and it isn't as noticeable now.

11andy11,

I think it was http://www.lipoxidil.com

I just looked at their site and they say they have reduced their product list because of various regulations so I don't think they have it now.

I remember the post. I would say I see obvious maintenance, and some slight regrowth, not that he has a great to regrowth to begin with

congrats, just think where he would be without it, thats go to be tough at that young age

Exactly. Most probably deterioration was going to quite rapid. I think you gave advice back then - thanks.
