Propecia slump

I've been on Finasteride 1mg tablets for approx 5 years now. There is no doubt in my mind that had of I not taken Propecia at early stages of male pattern baldness, my baldness would be significantly worse. My premature baldness was so severe that I thought I would be totally bald within months. In saying this over a period time I have been extremely happy with the results from Finasteride.

But only till recently I've noticed a decrease in effectiveness, with a increase in thinning and little to no hair gain. Does Finasterides effectiveness decrease with time? Is my body becoming immune to Propecia? Is a break from Finasteride a possible option? or should I introduce another product maybe? Any assistance/advice would be greatly appreciated.......

FC,
finasteride keeps working the same way forever but, unfortunately, your hairs become more sensitive to DHT as you age. So, in a way, finasteride does lose it's effectiveness over time.

Taking a break from finasteride caertainly won't help. There are still hairs on your head that need finasteride to survive. Those that you've lost recently are going to need something stronger (or, at least, different).

One option could be to add rogaine (minoxidil). It won't lower DHT (so it doesn't tackle the cause of hair loss) but it should stimulate some growth.

Another, more drastic, option is to get on dutasteride. It's very similar to finasteride but quite a bit more powerful. You'd want to find out more and maybe even talk to your Doctor before jumping in, though. At this stage it's not FDA approved but that could change in the near future. Have a search on this site for more info or ask someone like Jayman (aka the dutasteride-sl*t)...he's on it and loves it.

Goodluck

you've been on finasteride for 5 years and u don't know that it's the follicles that become more sensitive to DHT as opposed to finasteride losing its effectiveness?? It might be that dutasteride may be your option if u want your hair to stay how it is but u need to balance this out with unknown long term side effects from it.
