Propecia vs. Proscar

It seems like every person that I've read about chooses a different regimen. I'm frustrated with myself because I simply don't know what to go out and purchase. I'm pretty sure I plan on getting on the Big 3 as soon as possible. But, I can't decide on whether to go for Merck Proscar (which I've found for around $70 for 28 5mg tablets, which would be 6 months right?) or maybe I should go with Merck Propecia. Propecia would be much more expensive, at around $50 for 1 month online or $80/month from a local pharmacy. I guess what I'd like to know is the pros and cons of each. Should I save some cash and go with Proscar, or should I suck it up and go with Propecia. Hell, I guess I might even consider generics...I just would really like to get on a good regimen before it's too late. Any help is greatly appreciated.

i'm going with brand name propecia for piece of mind, but yes it is ridiculously expensive - the same amount i pay for tv/broadband a month.

some people claim success with generics but i wouldn't put the fate of my hair in a pill manufactured in some 3rd world country. some other poster made the point that if you had cancer would you trust generics? there are plenty of members who have had success with generics though - i just personally don't want to take the risk.

proscar sounds good but i read some article that said you can't guarantee the finasteride is equally distributed within the pill, so you get irregular dosing. could be nonsense but i've yet to see any hard literature that says the opposite.

kicking out $80/month is not a problem if it means keeping my hair.

Hmm, maybe we could get a head count of the amount of people using Propecia and the amount of people using Proscar?

I was using propecia with great results, but had sexual sides. Now I cut the propecia in half, the sides are gone, it's half the price, its still 70-80% effective and its more consistent than 1/4 or 1/5 proscar.

has anybody ever taken one and then switched to the other? if so, did you get the same results from each?

I have been on generic finpecia, generic fincar and Merck Proscar. All seemed fine and no change by switching. It's been 1 1/2 years

Hmm, so you think if I started out on Propecia, and then later on maybe decided to switch to Proscar that I would be fine?

It's the same drug. I don't see what the problem is.
