I just come across this on aanother forum...any thoughts?

"I do not beleive that Propecia offers a life time "cure" for hair loss. I suspect that after 5 years of treatment, the retarding affect of Propecia on your hair loss will decrease and hair loss will slowly resume."

A lot of people who switched to Avodart were using propecia successfully for a couple years before it stopped working, and then decided to make the switch. I guess either the follicles on the head become more sensitive to the little dht still being produced, or the body builds up a tolerance to the drug over time and starts to produce the regular amount of dht. not sure, haven't seen any studies on it.

I suppose it would depend on the age at which you started taking it. Obviously younger guys under 30 are going to be at a disadvantage. I think being on such a drug for over 15 years is bad for one anyway.

Look at the 5 year studies and you can make your own judgements at the graph how long it will work.

If you do go to http://www.propecia.com and read those charts, be patient, they can take a few minutes to load. Go to the "Health care professional" link.

I think because MERK did a 5 year study people suddenly think it will stop working at year 5. When in fact it does suggest that you continue to regrow somehair at year 5.
