Propecia works = Side effects for sure?

Hi all,

Just started on finasteride and I'm trying to do as much research as I can. I was wondering, is it almost certain to have side effects (sexual, gyno, etc.) if your finasteride works for you? Because that's kind of how I understand it, that the side effects are a sign that the medicine is working. But can it work without the side effects? Have there been any cases of that? Any comments would be helpful.

If this is what I'm looking at,

Hair = side effects (sexual and gyno), no way around them
VS
No hair = no side effects

... I'd almost favor going with no hair! I'm wondering if anyone's seen the best of both worlds (i.e. Hair, No side effects).

Propecia works in roughly 83% of men to either maintain or regrow some hair, while the sides occur in 2-3% of men. (although, some will argue differently) There are plenty of finasteride success stories here with no side effects, myself included. Keep in mind also, that you are on the internet and will find a high percentage of people with side effects because this is where they come for answers. The other 98% go on about their lives and the majority of them maintain or increase their hair count. My advice is to stop reading these forums now, or you'll just convince yourself out of the best available treatment or right into imagined side effects.

I've read of the worst situation - Not Working & Sides! :shock:

Thanks for the replies, guys. I know most of the stories online are horror stories and not representative of everyone, but at the same time they're the only stories available to someone like me!!! I have nowhere else to turn! I've somehow gotta find a more realistic opinion and so I appreciate all your help in that regard.

I'm on it 6 months and reduced to 0.25mg after 3-4 months due to excessive tiredness.

Its not working at all, in fact its accelerated loss if anything, I am 50% behind baseline.

For effectiveness there are quite a few like me on this board where we are all worse off and some have had much worse sides than me..I didn't get the sexual problems.

Keep considering giving up but trying to persevere for another couple of months just in case a miracle happens and things improve.
