So still waiting for pill cutter to arrive.

Can someone refer me to where it says to actually split the pill into 1MG doses. It seems strange that everyone here has adopted this attitude to something as crucial as maintening hair by 'doing it on the cheap'.

You won't find that anywhere because you don't have to spit it to 1mg doses. Just do 1.25, unless you are cheap and want to take 4x1.25 every 5 days.

Go to your local drug store and get a pill cutter. It is $5. That is how much shipping alone will cost you.

Cheers but thats not what I meant. Is there any scientific source that states about splitting the pills rather than board members (as knowledgble as they are).

I'm not sure what you are asking. What alternative are you proposing to cutting it in 1mg doses? or 1.25mg?

ck11 what exactly is your question? if you want to take finasteride, but would rather pay less money, you buy proscar and cut it up. the ingredients are exactly the same, just proscar has 5 times as much. the reason people have a casual attitude about this is because it really is that simple. if you cut an apple into quarters you have 4 quarters of an apple...

I think what he´s asking is if there are any problems in cutting the pill, i.e. if it makes it less effective than Propecia for example.
I´m pretty sure that there aren´t any problems with cutting Proscar. After all, you´re ending up with 1.25mg (less the residuals when the pill is broken) against 1mg from Propecia. Go for it, it´s so much cheaper and the same ingredients!! And i would suggest getting a pill cutter, like College said, although you can use a sharp knife to cut it too.

some people are affraid the stomach acid will do something. The purpose of asprin coating is to protect your stomach, not the asprin. The reason many meds say "do not chew" is because they are time release. finasteride is not. I called merck and the receptionist could not answer my question, but looked it up and said it did not say not to chew, so it is probably ok to chew. many doctors say to cut it up. If merck wanted to stop our short cut, they would tell us that the acid will hurt it, if it did. it would be too easy for them.
