Will a 5mg tablet of proscar benefit me more than a 1.25 mg tablet? And if I were noticing a decrease in libido would the 5mg tablet magnify it?

1. No

2. Yes

Stay the course at 1.25mg.

Finasteride is not dose dependant like most meds. More than likely you would respond just as well to .25mg as you will at 1.25mg. If you want proof, look at the 5 year study at http://www.propecia.com. Got to "Health care proffesionals" and let the study load. Be patient, even with broadband, it seems to take awhile to load.

Since finasteride only inhibits one type of 5-Alpha reductase, and 1mg is sufficient to reduce DHT levels significantly...increasing the dosage will just finish off any remaining DHT being produced by that form of 5-AR. You can only inhibit so much of a hormone before you can't inhibit it any more.

It's not that the finasteride isn't getting more potent in the blood stream, it's that it just can't do any more work cuz there's nothing left to do.

relaaaaaaaax man, im not trying to prove anyone wrong, just a comment is all.

I listen to his radio show and he (the all knowing god of all things hairloss) believes it is dose dependant. I believe he takes 5mg a day.

Like i said, just a comment.

That is all

No it's cool. I wasn't getting pissed or anything. I was just trying to get some disussion going.

If he takes 5mg, then he is wasting his money. Why does finasteride commenly come in 1mg doses then? Why would it come so weak if 1mg is such a huge drop from 5mg? The question obviously turns to safety VS a possible minor % of benefit.

look, .25 mg is good for 66% of people for male pattern baldness. 1MG is good for 90%. EDIT(Here is a link

http://www.propecia.com/finasteride/pro ... ssment.jsp)

That really shows a non-dose dependency as far as most meds go.

If he takes 5mg, God help his child if he gets someone pregnant. Look at http://www.proscar.com and read about someone getting pregnant on the stuff.
