Anyone cut proscar into 1/8ths? By all the studies you would be getting over .5mg getting oevr 80% effect and you would be saving huge money. Just wondered if anyone tried it...

is it just me who thinks that if you really want to take it in 1 /8ths,..why bother taking it at all..most likely it'll be like not taking it at all..if you take it, at least cut it in fourths and get your money's worth at what's most likely to give you results

I can't say that I've cut them into 8ths, but you would be getting about .625mg of finasteride which should definitely be beneficial. There are success stories with lower doses.

I think cutting them into 1/8th would end up wasting a lot of the pill from them getting crushed into powder.

Tablets are coated so that they disolve when in your system. If you cut them then coating is not on 50% of the pill so bear that in mind. 8ths is not really practical.

Why not just but generic finasteride, its cheap and does not compromise the tablet by cutting it and you get recommended 1mg. Those on 1.25mg by using quarter increase sides potential without increasing effect by relative amount so 1mg should be considered max, studies show less than 1mg is still very beneficial. You could always cut the generic finasteride in half to save further money but I would take 1mg once a week or so to keep DHT inhibit levels as high as poss.

For chrissakes, why are so many people bound and determined to believe what you just said?? In my opinion, it's highly likely that side-effects (or the potential for side-effects) are directly proportional to the extent to which you reduce the production of DHT. So if you only slightly further reduce DHT by taking 5 mg/day instead of 1 mg/day, you also only slightly increase the risk of side-effects.

Effectiveness of finasteride per mg on DHT reduction can be seen on graphs readily available. Above 1mb the effectiveness reduces significantly which is why 1mb is the recommended dose. 100% DHT reduction being the max that could ever be achieved and is shown that could never be reached no matter how high the dose.

Side effects of drugs in general however tend to continue upwards as dose increases as there is no side effect maximum, if finasteride follows this then keeping a lower dose is much better to rduce sides but still keep DHT reduction effectiveness

This is my interpretation after studying the data and its fine to disagree or have a different opinion...we are all here to pool advice and opinions to hopefully reach conclusion and be of help to us all in the end.
