1st sorry if this is a repost, i did a search and found nothing, what can you experts in this matter say about fincar versus proscar, i know fincar is the generic and stuff, but to be more specific, did anybody take the treatment with fincar with good results? is any thing to consider in fincar that i wont get with proscar like strange side effects (besides the others pointed on proscar off course), since i'm not managing to find any website selling proscar on europe i'm going to take a shot on fincar from genhair.com

Same drug. There is no difference between the two other than where they are manufactured and how much they cost

No Proscar uses a different substance for colouring. All you need to know is that they both contain 5mg Finasteride. They are identical drugs.

The keyword above is Inactive

I hope this doesn't lead to an FD&C Blue2 made me go bald when I switched from Proscar to Fincar thread

If you really want to be a*** about it why don't you ponder this. The finasteride in each brand is made in different plants, presumably following slightly different chemical reaction schemes. Every complicated chemical reaction has a chance of producing unintended by products and usually produces the product in yeilds less than 100%. Some of the remaining stuff is a bucnh of by products whereas some is just unreacted starting products. At atleast one stage of the reaction(final) the desired chemical is purified by some means or another. This purification process is not 100% so there are some residuals in the final batch of the intended product. Each batch of finasteride is going to have a slighly different makeup of residual crap in it, albeit in concentrations so minute that they are in effect not even present, they are there. Now batches of finasteride that are produced from chemicals from different suppliers or that are produced with a different reaction scheme will differ even more greatly in what by products are present.

So of course they are not IDENTICAL but there is no nead to split hairs over the difference.

If it makes you feel better, get the Proscar. Get it via prescription. The Indian stuff may very well be safe...but for a few bucks more for the real article, why fret?

I'm not a fan of self-prescribing any regulated medication, and I know of no US doctor who would call out "Fincar." I also know of no doctor anywhere who would advocate mail ordering medication that's received in an envelope with no return address. 'Nuff said.
