I haven't had a hair transplant and would like to keep it that way. I'm taking finasteride 1.25mg and keto shampoo 2-3 times a week. My density is there but always wanted to see if my sides can improve. Was wondering if anyone has had or recc'd PRP injection as a stadnalone preventative treatment? Like 1x a year? It's not the cheapest I know but is non-surgical and over the long haul seemingly less of a hassle. It's rather new but I know most Doctor's do it before or after hair transplant's to give the follicles the best chance to grow/survive.

Jury is out on PRP most of the people on here who did it (not that many did ) had no results.

I see on some women forums that there is good results.

Its very hit or miss and they cannot tell you 'why' its hit or miss.

My hair transplant surgeon admitted he sees good (did not define good) results in only 2/3 patients..thats a big gamble.

A dermatologist i saw today who is alopecia specialist and researcher--i asked about PRP and she said their is no way she can even comment on it the studies are all over the place she said she is waiting for a presentation that was coming out in March 2017 from the annual meeting of american academy of dermatologist on its efficiency.

I am getting it done in USA, Austin Texas. The important thing is Acell+PrP, the key is to have Acell with it, according to the Dr I'm talking with, another great doctor is Dr Prasayd, he is up north east coast in USA. Maryland and somewhere near Boston I believe.

Prasayd is in NY--I don't think he uses Acell though.
I have not read anyone who used him on hair loss sites who spoke well of it from him
Only on Realself which is plastic surgery--but I don't trust that site you have to be careful of the reviews there.
Just my opinion.

Its very hard to find good info, Prasayd is in NY you are right, but has satellite offices else where. Prasayd uses Acell but he calls it something different I forget the name...forgive me too lazy to go back to his site. I haven't been able to find anybody that's done Acell+PrP so ill be the guinea pig for the group.

What was the cost? I've heard it can't hurt and for anything wound/recovery related it's a godsend. Also, how many treatments are you told to get? I've heard the better the machine/treatment the less you have to go. Ideally once a year.. Lastly, I've also heard some major derm conference next year they are releasing data so looking forward to that. Dr. Konior here in Chicago (Best hair in the entire state and arguably top 5 in entire US) says until his firm sees more data with legit trials (vs. mixed) he won't offer it at his firm yet. Yet..

The cost is about 3200 dollars, and they recommend doing another follow up at the 12th month mark after. Once that is done they said some patients don't need another up to 3-5 years. Lets say to be conservative you want to do it once every 18 months, then it ends up costing around 177 a month broken over time (for upkeep)

My plan is to try the initial one, and if I do see the results, then I will just set aside 200 a month into my HSA (health savings account) then when the time comes for the next one, ill swipe the card.

i had Acell with PRP done in May, with absolutely no effect. Hairloss continued since at the same rate, and my hair is much worse than it was in May. No it did not accerlate my hair loss, it simply did nothing. I think its safe to say that now, roughly 7 months post procedure. I really believe Acell is just a BS gimmick, but PRP alone may be effective if you do the treatments consecutively once a month for 3 months. My business partner did this way, and without a doubt, i see hair where previously was bald. He just finished his 3rd and final treatment, so his results are suppose to get better and better for another 9 months according to his doctor.

I underwent a PRP treatment a little over 2 weeks ago. Nurse said it will take 6-8 weeks to start to see results. So far I noticed less shedding, will update again soon with pics.

I have been getting PRP for the past 3 years with Dr. Cole. I will continue to get PRP. PRP with ACELL was around $1700. In Sept. I had 1200 FUE graphs with his sonicated PRP. Lots of doctors don't advertise PRP. Most doctors won't show you all their before and after school unless you're in person. I keep reading that you need 3 PRP injections within 6 months then you can go once a year. I could not afford this. it makes sense and even histogen you need 3 injections close together. best of luck!

I was unaware you could use your HSA for PRP injections for hair.
