Hi

I first noticed I was receding about 1.5 years ago. I didnt think too much of at the time but as time as has progressed I've found myself thinking more and more about it. I'm constantly touching my hair and its start to drive me nuts. I don't have the "male pattern baldness itch" i just am always touching it every few minutes to make sure my hair is still there.

I went to my doctor in the summer she confirmed that i was balding (although mentioned my hairline could be maturing) she suggested I stay away from propecia at this point in my life. However, she did say she would prescribe it if I really wanted to go that route. She then suggested some sort of topical (it wasn't minoxidil can't remember which one).

I've been thinking of starting a regimen and pictures are posted below

My family history suggests that I will go bald. My dad is bald (I think he was a norwood 3 at 25-30). My uncles who I more closely resemble in terms of hair went bald in there mid 30s (one had a hair transplant and at 50 is a norwood 3 or so).

What regimen do you guys think would be most effective? Is the full big 3 necessary? I'm more looking for maintenance then regrowth.

What norwood do you think I am?

I find certain foods make my forehead greasy especially in the temple areas. Is this related to male pattern baldness?

Do topicals have to be applied twice a day to be effective?

What does your hair feel like after applying a topical? Does it feel natural?

Does Nizoral help with maintenance or regrowth? Does nizoral do anything as a standalone?

Is there anyway to tell before I start finasteride if I will have side effects? (some sort of bloodtest) Side effects from finasteride are hat im most concerned about as I feel decreased libido at 21 is much worse then hairloss.

thanks

i'm 21 on proscar (finasteride) now for 2 months and my libido's been as high as ever, no reduced ejaculate, i can still paint a pretty picture at the end of a good session.

i would call you a Norwood 1.5.

some people get greasy skin, some don't. it could or could not be associated with male pattern baldness, it's more likely just greasy skin.

minoxidil is the only topical i have experience with. i use rogaine foam, leaves the hair feeling as if you have a styling product in it...maybe a little drier because of the alcohol.

your best bet is to start finasteride and see for yourself if side effects occur, if they do you can always re-evaluate your decision to take that medication.

i started using nizoral today. Im going to monitor my hair for a few months and if my hairline has receeded further by June or July im going to jump on finasteride.

hey... good on you for gettin on it early. Your hair looks alot like mine (one of my temples maybe a little worse than yours though). I've just turned 23 and I've been on finasteride for about 8 months, and nizoral for the last month and a half.

Keep a close eye on it, and see how it is in 6 months and then make your mind up on taking the finasteride. I've had no probs with it, in fact I feel a hell of alot better takin it becuase I know I'm actually dooing something about it. Other than a few sheds, I've had no sides, and on a whole my libido had increased because of a gain of confidence.

Peace...

if you're sure you're loosing it (And family history suggests that you are, or at least will) then you should get on finasteride and add nizoral into the mix. Doesnt look like you need any regrowth at all brah.
