:freaked2: :freaked2: Hi
I am new to the forum but not new to alopecia, I have suffered for about 10 years and I am 30 years old.
When I first noticed my hair loss I went to my GP who did blood tests and found out that I have a underactive thyroid. (which I take 150mg thyroxine a day) also I went on a pill called Dianette. I was also refrerred to a dermatlogist. Unfortuntley no improvement was made so over the years I have been to see Trichogists who pescribed Minoxodil this did not help so I stopped using after about 18 months. Most recently I saw a tricolgist Dr Hugh Rushton (London, Harley Street) he pescribed Proscar which I only toke for a short while as I was worried it was harmful to women. Although my hair is very thin all over the crown it seemed until recently not to get any worse, but unfortunatley the last 8 weeks it has got even thinner. Working is really hard I work in a call centre and feel really embarrased and worry about my appeance. I tend to avoid going out at night as i dont feel I look good which makes my self astem really low. I am now worried as it is so thin you can seee much of my scalp, I dont really want the stares if I walk into work one day wearing a wig. I am at my witts end looking for an answer or cure.

Propecia is the best thing to keep the hair you have. Having another transplant can then give your thicker hair. If your worried about people where you work noticing when your transplanted hair starts growing move jobs. The call centre industry is large with plenty of jobs. A new job and a new you with more hair.

You could do that or do nothing intill you go bald and accept it. Your at a crossroad and its either left or right. Your decision

I think Petchsky was thinking you were male with his response re: Propecia.

Have you tried Toppik Pumpin?

Have you tried Rogaine? Tricomin?

Hi Pumkin,

Minoxidil is the same as Rogaine. If you were using the 2% solution it might be worth giving the stronger 5% minoxidil a try, even though it's not marketed specifically for women.

As for Proscar's safety, my understanding is that trials have proven its safety for use by women but that there are concerns about its effects on the sexual development of male foetuses. I think I'm right in saying, however, that the dosage given to rats before these problems arose was significantly higher than the typical Finasteride dose of 1 - 1.25mg per day.
