I want to decrease the dose of my proscar from 1.25mg four out of five days to 1.25mg every other day. this should be equivelant to 0.625mg compared with 1mg, which I am on now.

will this make any problem?

Should only be a small decrease in the percentage of DHT reduced in your body by halving the finasteride intake. However, DHT levels and hair loss are directly related, so it should (even if only by a little bit) worsen your hair loss. In the short term, very hard to notice though.

considering it takes over 2 weeks to rebuild DHT levels from a single 1mg dosage, i would not see a problem... i would wait until a good year or so on the drug to make sure i have gotten the most out of it

I am going to take 5mg, on Mon-Wed-Fri for a month, to see how it goes.

Been on finasteride for 1.5 years, good results, but I want to do more experimenting. It has worked for me in every way, so I like to try different things. Things I can share with others on this board.

I am convinced that you can eat this stuff, 10 mgs a day without a problem.

Be careful. I´ve read about a lot of people doing well on Propecia and then switching the dosage or switching to dutasteride and regretting it. Make it an easy and subtle transition. Hope it all goes well!

I am convinced that it's not a problem to decrease the dosage. My problem is how to decrease it without affecting its effeciency.
I have the undesirable side effects of proscar and I want to decrease it. so, I am trying to make a compromise

That´s what i meant with problems. if you reduce your finasteride intake, it´ll increase the DHT that affects your hair, so you´re bound to get more hair loss (even if only a little), making it harder later on to get that hair back. But i suppose if you´re having side effects and really can´t take them, then it´s obviously better to decrease the dosage to side effect levels u can stand.

I think I will take the risk.. but after consulting my dermatologist first (although he is an idiot according to what he told me before that 1mg of proscar doesn't cause sexual problems)

also I have stopped rogaine for 1 month now and I lost few hairs since then.. I will wait for the next month which is more important in order not to mix the causes of my hair loss in this period.
