I'm an abuser of hairspray.

As time has gone on and my hair has gotten quite thin and whispy along the top - I've found hairspray to be the only thing that can firm it up enough for me to be able to style it. I can't even bare the thought of me not using it.

After I get out of the shower I rub a little volumizing mousse in my hair and then spray a coating of L'Oreal Lock It weather control hairspray. I brush and blow dry, add some matte paste for styling, some toppik, and then lock it all in with some more hairspray.

My question to you all is - am I doing any damage or further antagonizing my hair loss, especially when I first spray it on after my shower? Naturally some of that is going to get on my scalp. Mind you I've been doing this for the better part of 10+ years. Been wondering because I'm about to finally going to embark on a dermaroller/topical combo and I want to get rid of any potential complications.

  1. You should dermaroll a clean scalp to avoid possible skin infections
  2. You should use topical lotions on a clean scalp because both the mousse and the hairspray can leave residues on the scalp and limit absorption
  3. When you blow dry your hair, the only damage you can do is if the hairdrier's too hot and you direct it on the follicles. You may damage them.

Have any recommendations for cleaning the scalp up nicely for topicals? Last night I simply used my Nature's Gate Shampoo (w/Tea Tree Oil, Sea Buckthorn, and Rosemary).

Any delicate shampoo will do.
