Question about Minoxidil

I have a Norwood 2 or 3. I have a receding hairline but the hair next to the bald temple area is quite thick and normal. Which brings me to my question. I've been on Propecia for 7-8 months with no noticeable improvement... maybe it stopped or significantly slowed down the hair loss, but when 12-14 months pass and I don't see any improvement I might use Minoxidil. I've heard about the drawbacks and that you become dependent, but what my question is should i only apply the minoxidil to the bald receding area? Or should I also apply the Minoxidil to the hair that's adjacent to the bald receding area as well? What I'm worried about is that if I apply Minoxidil to the hair that's still good that it will become Minoxidil dependent and so then I will have to use Minoxidil there as well... So if you apply Minoxidil to normal growing hair will that hair suddenly become dependent upon Minoxidil to grow?

Sounds strange that someone using propecia is talking about the drawbacks of minoxidil. All hair loss solutions are temporary, and depend on thier further use. We are all using the existing temporary treatments in hope that there will be a cure in the future. If you are using propecia already, I don't see any reason why you arent using minoxidil, at least 1Xday.

I thiink you have the dependency thing confused. All your hair isnt going to fall out when you stop usiing minoxidil. You will just lose the hair youve grown as a result of its use.

If your that worried about minoxidil, then use Copper Peptides as a growth stimulator ie. folligen, Crew Revitalizing spray, Tricomin

So just hair that grows because of Minoxidil right? So let's say you put Minoxidil on hair that grows normally and you stopped using Minoxidil on that area... The hair would still be able to grow normally without Minoxidil correct?

That's correct. Again, if it worries you then go with the CU peptides. I use the Crew with good success.

Propecia is a hair maintenance treatment first and foremost. As bryan and I have stated several times, Minoxidil is used for guys who need to regrow a noticeable amount of hair. New hair loss sufferers who are just starting to see thinning and are happy to keep wht they have (aka - no improvement) should do fine on Propecia alone. If you're looking for improvement, you may need minoxidil. Rougly 30% of responders to Propecia saw new hair growth as well, but that percentage is low, so it is always advised to combine the two in your situation.

This is a good question. It is recommended that you apply minoxidil only to hair that NEEDED the extra growth stimulation. However, even if you DO apply it to other hairs (hairs that don't really need the assistance), they may become "minoxidil-dependent" to a certain extent, but it's just a temporary phenomenon, anyway. Maybe six months. The negative "rebound" effect that you get after discontinuing minoxidil apparently returns to normal after about that period of time.

Bingo. Minoxidil doesn't necessarily maintain hairs that Propecia can't keep. It grows new ones, and you will lose those which you've grown from Minoxidil and therefore are dependent upon it.

If you use folligen with your minoxidil, you may avoid the shed part.
