question about shedding

I have experienced hair loss for about 2 and a half years. The thinning is diffuse. It is really hard to tell my progress. I have been on propecia for about 1 year and 2 months. My shedding seems to have remained at the same rate. However, it is hard for me to gauge any cosmetic results. Is it possible that even though my rate of shedding has remained the same, that my hairloss progression has actually slowed or stopped? Or am i being overly optimistic here. Thanks!

I don't think you're being overly optimistic, I think it is completely normal sounding.

Shed rate is a function of the speed of your hair growth cycle. It makes complete sense for this to remain constant, but for your hair to maintain or perhaps make slight improvement in terms of male pattern baldness.

ok so just to clarify, upon the onset of male pattern baldness, i was plagued by a bad itch, and flakes, and noticably increased shedding. The itch and flakes have largely subsided, but the shed seems to have remained the same. The thinning is diffuse and it's really hard to tell the progression. You are saying that it's possible that even though this shed has stayed the same, my actual hair loss could have stopped, or gotten better? If so, why do people talk about shed counts and everything like that? seems like it would be unimportant.
