question about vitamins

I've noticed that different vitamins give different ingestion instructions. Some say to take with a meal, some before a meal, some after, and some it just doesn't matter.

So, out of curiousity, I was wondering if anyone knows WHY different vitamins have different directions. Why, for example, would it be best to take something BEFORE a meal instead of afterwards?

Just curious about this, but if anyone can shed some light, I'd appreciate it.

You'll probably receive a more scientific answer from my left-hemisphere-brained forum brothers, but my take is that some vitamins don't require food in your system to absorb properly - whereas others do.

In the case of MSM (a sulfur based supplement) for example - because it is sulfur based it can induce gastro-intestinal distress if taken on an empty stomach - so it's better to take it with or after a meal.
